1. The shooter used a shotgun, one not even heavily regulated in many European countries.
2. The shooter was a minor, was restricted from possessing that firearm in many different ways under Oregon law, all of which they ignored.
3. The shooter targeted a school you helped disarm, and bragged about doing so.
4. The shooter was stopped by an armed citizen who, thank God, ignored that law, and thus saved countless lives.

Police have shared that three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and one teacher were fatally shot at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. A 7-year-old was also injured.

Police confirm a community member pursued the 16-year-old shooter into the school and fatally shot him before officers arrived, ending the attack. The district banned CHL carry on grounds via SB554, which Giffords supported.

I agree. I know quite a few parents who made bad educational choices for their kids because they were in the grips of their own ideology, and very very very few will ever admit they made a mistake. We should encourage humility and self-reflection. It's a powerful essay.
