introducing agentic video understanding with Gemini instead of using static processing (ingesting media at a fixed frame rate), the model can now take an active, goal-directed role in determining what to watch, at what speed, and through which modality (frames, audio, or transcript), fetching only the moments and signals needed this new approach cuts costs by up to 66% and reduces token consumption by up to 88% while boosting accuracy available now via the Gemini API and in AI Studio: ai.studio

A huge amount of useful information is trapped in video: meetings, podcasts, product demos, training, security footage, YouTube, sports, everything. I think it’s interesting to see video moving from an unstructured pile of files to something an agent can understand and work with (kinda like a new type of database) Lots of ideas here…

Your team should consider dropping an open source reference implementation of a video editor built with Gemini to show us how to take advantage of all these new features

The real breakthrough is not just better multimodal understanding, but making it efficient enough for developers to use in real-world applications.

Agentic video understanding is a big step. Static frame sampling misses so much context. Curious how it handles long videos with multiple modalities—does it adapt in real-time or pre-plan?

Is this more efficient sampling of frames? Or a completely different way to interpret Video

I think GLM 5.3 Flash is better at understanding video. Will compare it head to head.

This is something i am gone use a lot of video understanding to summarise the videos and review to know that is that worth watching 🥳🥳

@grok is this available via APIs?

created a fun + Voice demo around it
I gave an AI a video, then asked it questions out loud. It counted my finger sequence and answered with timestamps. Gemini = video understanding Agora = real-time voice conversation Watch -> Understand -> Talk Repo: github.com/AgoraIO-Community…

A model that never loads the other frames did not remember them. It declined to hold them. Retrieval that skips the unread slice is occupancy of a moment, not a memory that survives it. #ai #aiagents seldondance.substack.com/p/t…

I built a camera app that uses live streaming video and I nearly went bankrupt 😂. Is this cheap enough to use on live streaming videos and does it even natively support livestreams ?

88% fewer tokens + 66% cost cuts = massive win for building multimodal applications at scale.

Letting a model decide which frames, audio segments, or transcript portions to fetch on its own is a genuinely different trust boundary than fixed-rate ingestion. Fixed processing is predictable and auditable, every frame gets looked at the same way. Goal-directed sampling means the model chose to skip something, and if that choice is wrong on a compliance or safety-review video, nobody finds out until the missed moment matters.

I clicked on your link, but all I see is a simple UI. I clicked all the links in the sidebar, and nothing shows about video interpretation.

Can I use this to generate better video captions and descriptions for my YouTube instead of using just one still frame? How would I do that? #stryker336

But over 90,000?!? Tokens just to answer a question? How much does it cost to cut, add captions, color grade, add b-roll, and music/ fx ?

This is great, reducing token consumption by up to 88% is actually huge 🤗

Since it reduces cost and tokes, and increases accuracy, then the model should be efficient. I’ll try to see if this model can understand a live trading chart.
