El Segundo, CA
This month, General Galactic (@gengalactic) broke a nearly 70-year-old record in rocket science. Announcing Genesis, our water-electrolysis space propulsion platform. We're the first company to demonstrate this capability with real flight hardware.

“Yeah we aren’t sending humans to Mars lmao” Wait until you learn about the dust in your house bro
NEW - NASA’s Mars rover, Perseverance, finds that Martian dust is smaller and more dangerous than previously thought, with the ultrafine particles able to stick to spacesuit materials, be carried into living areas, and bypass the human blood-brain barrier.

"What's the market for spacecraft that can fly to the Moon?"
BREAKING: The Pentagon is considering deploying its first military satellite constellation between Earth and the Moon, with initial spacecraft targeted for 2029. In a new solicitation published today, the U.S. Space Force is seeking industry proposals for a cislunar space system consisting of up to five spacecraft, potentially forming the foundation of a much larger military constellation. The proposed system would include satellites carrying government-provided payloads, dedicated ground infrastructure, launch services and mission operations. The initial spacecraft could be procured to meet military requirements by late 2029, as the Pentagon expands its focus beyond Earth orbit and toward the Moon. The development follows growing concerns about China's expanding lunar ambitions and the strategic importance of monitoring activity across the vast region between Earth and the Moon. Industry responses are due November 24. No spacecraft have been ordered and no deployment contracts have been awarded. The Pentagon is currently evaluating commercial capabilities and potential acquisition strategies.

Regardless of the scale/sustainability of the mission — you can’t underestimate the impact on the American consciousness of “an adversary is on the Moon and we aren’t”

We must develop a low cost, super scalable method to get payloads from conventional launches in LEO to the Moon. Or the Moon Base plans are cooked. @gengalactic is two years ahead of the curve. More to come.
BREAKING: SpaceX has reportedly told companies developing lunar landers for NASA that it will no longer provide launch services for their missions, according to new reporting by Ars Technica. The decision could complicate NASA's plans to establish a sustained presence on the Moon, as smaller lunar lander developers may need to turn to alternative rockets such as Blue Origin's New Glenn. The disclosure comes amid a broader shift in SpaceX's launch business: SpaceX $SPCX has told NASA it intends to retire Crew Dragon by 2030, reportedly stopped offering new commercial Falcon 9 launches beyond 2028, and declined to bid on three additional U.S. Space Force launch contracts. SpaceX continues to fulfill its existing government commitments, but the developments raise questions about NASA's growing dependence on a company increasingly focused on Starship, Starlink and AI infrastructure.

Man I wonder what's in those payloads 👀
Giving future space missions a leg up. Or an arm, rather. Rocket Lab Robotics developed a robotic arm with @NASA that can walk across spacecraft, use tools, and perform repairs and upgrades in orbit. It launches on NASA's Fly Foundational Robots mission in late 2027. rocketlabcorp.com/updates/a-…

For the last ~5 years, the first slide in virtually every space startup's pitch was about "falling launch costs" and/or "Starship launch mass" Neither of those premises has come to pass, and I don't think many startups or VCs have realized that's not where the world is headed

Thiel’s suggestion here leads to a very sad future Outside of extremely rare athletic talent or attractiveness, intellectual agency (aka “being smart”) is the sole vector through which an individual can climb social strata In a world where intellect no longer matters and all engagement is relationship-based, you will be condemned to life and death in whatever social strata you were born into. There will be no class mobility, just increasing tribalism among the elites. If you’re not already golf buddies with the elite, you will have no route to wealth. A caste-based permanent underclass. — My more optimistic take is that human knowledge (the kind in your brain) will only become more valuable in a world where the masses are pacified by cheap intelligence (the kind on your phone). The ability to recall important information rapidly without the use of a separate device will give you superpowers. In a transactional conversation, the more intelligent party has the advantage. If your intelligence is disembodied, then what advantage does it bring? Maybe in some future we all have super nueralink implants and cheap intelligence truly is embodied, but then we’ve sacrificed all thought anyways and are just meat puppets. Sad future. All to say, I’d recommend staying smart rather than falling into this reworded “taste is the moat” mentality.
Walter Isaacson asks Peter Thiel what humans can uniquely do in the AI era. Thiel: "We're very relational… these relational dimensions will become more important." When knowledge is worth $0, the only career skills that matter: - networking / social calibration - persuasion (sales) - curiosity (harnessing AI) - taste (curation) - storytelling - grit - golfing with clients (or equivalent) We'll get so sick of a fake world that we'll go back to doing business like it's the 1800s. A handshake at the local saloon.

One evening I was studying for an exam in Talley and someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was Dave Doeren. He handed me a BoBerry biscuit and said “good luck”. That was the only exam I outright failed in college. But the biscuit was good. Thank you coach ❤️🐺
Dave Doeren on his time at NC State: "I love this university, and I leave here knowing that I made it better than I found it -- on and off the field. I wanted so badly to win a championship here at NC State, but I will be cheering for this program to get there under its future leadership."

It will be one thing when AGI is built internally, something very different when rolled out to the masses. It will be hard to know when we’ve hit a point of no return. When Jeep sells their last vehicle, we will know humanity has truly become super-intelligent.

I wrote my first G code and ran my first CNC for a sophomore class in HS. Incredibly grateful to have had access to that kind of training, and in public school!
The first college ME program which requires machining in the first semester, or better yet as a HS prerequisite, will be the leaders of the next decade
