Today I met Dave, who drove the first train out of Waterloo under the Government’s public ownership programme. We said we’d bring the train operating companies into public ownership. We’re delivering. Next stop: set up Great British Railways to better manage track and train!

Potholes can cost drivers up to £600 in repairs. That’s why we're fighting back with record investment: 🛣️ Nearly 7,000 miles of roads resurfaced this year 💷 £220m more for councils 📈 More prevention, fewer potholes We're tackling the pothole plague.

Eli showed incredible bravery during a very difficult situation, putting the needs of other passengers ahead of her own despite her injuries. I'm so pleased to see her recognised with a Pride of Britain award.
Despite suffering significant injuries in a devastating train crash, Dr Eleanor Prior put the lives of others first, taking lifesaving action before emergency services arrived. When her train collided with a stationary train near Bedford, Eli was thrown eight metres down the aisle. Ignoring her own injuries, the GP stayed in the front carriage to help severely injured passengers. When the emergency services arrived, she worked alongside them to triage casualties and even refused an ambulance for herself so that others could take it. Watch Eli receive her Special Recognition Award at The Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards on Thursday 22 October at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX. @pandocruises @DailyMirror #PrideOfBritain #PrideOfBritainAwards #SpecialRecognition #DailyMirror #ITV #ITVX

Today I am announcing a new railway station at Bradford Interchange. We are delivering Northern Powerhouse Rail, working in lock-step with local leaders like @MayorOfWY. We will create a turn-up-and-go train service for the great cities of the north.🚉 theguardian.com/business/202…

It's so frustrating when the actions of a few spoil your journey. Our new campaign reminds passengers to use headphones on trains, and highlights the penalties. And local leaders get new powers to tackle music, vaping and littering on buses. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm89…

Derby is a great city with a proud railway heritage. So pleased to be there today to confirm Becketwell as the new home of Great British Railways and launch our new Rail Foundation Apprenticeship Scheme, giving 600 young people a chance to help shape the future of our railway.

You know that feeling when you book a flight for 50 quid and somehow it ends up costing 100? Getting seats together, correcting a typo, another charge here and there, it all adds up. When the cost of living is already squeezing people, those endless extras can feel relentless. So we're changing the rules for you. Parents won't need to pay a penny extra just to sit next to their own children. You'll be able to fix any name errors on your booking free of charge. And because the last thing you want once you're on the plane is more stress, we're working with the industry to make sure that disruptive passengers who have been banned from one airline can be banned from flying with other airlines too. I know holidays are expensive and these are small things, but hopefully they'll make your trip just that little bit cheaper and easier. That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.

As I said in my speech at conference, a train without level boarding is a job you can't take. All new Great British Railways trains will be level boarding, as standard. We’re building a railway that everyone can rely on. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/r…

As Andy said today, this was a real speech - but it was also a great one. He’s a real person, in whom working class aspiration and decent family values are self-evident. It was a speech full of courage and conviction. Loved it.
A new National Care Service. Greater public control of water, energy, and housing. A National Commission on Electoral Reform. Strengthening our relationship with Europe. Reforming the education and welfare system. Today I set out a different path for Britain. You may disagree with some or all of what I have said today. But I have given you what you often say is missing from politics. Honesty, ideas and a clear direction for the country we all love. If you agree with enough of what I have said, get behind this plan. And get behind each other. It's time to draw a line. To move beyond a decade of drift and division. To bring a spirit of unity and positivity back to our country. To unlock the working-class aspiration that is still there in every postcode. To hope again.

For years, we've heard stories of Avanti underperforming, with passengers left paying the price. I've listened - and so today I announced that we'll haul Avanti into public ownership at the earliest opportunity, delivering a railway that serves passengers not shareholders.

Enough is enough. For years, people have been expected to put up with Avanti’s cancellations, delays, overcrowding, and a service that has failed them time and time again. So my Labour government is bringing Avanti West Coast into public ownership at the earliest opportunity in March next year. That means passengers, not shareholders, will come first. More investment, fewer delays, and a renewed focus on getting the basics right. We're putting essential services back in public hands and building a railway that actually works for the people who use it.
