Ten years ago today. In just the last few days: Trump made a deal for the U.S. to buy Russian diesel, an economic lifeline for Putin; he and Elon Musk blamed each other for an order that slowed down Starlink satellite connectivity over Ukraine, hampering the country's defenses during a devastating Russian attack; and Trump waived sanctions on Russia that Congress, led by his late friend Lindsey Graham, had pushed for. Now, Putin has proposed a summit with Trump and Xi to decide Ukraine’s fate for them, bulldoze a century of international cooperation, and frame Russia as an equal to the U.S. and China. We’ll see if Putin’s puppet continues to dance on his strings.

I was delighted to meet Dr. Omar Mohammad, a historian and writer whose work I have long admired, in person today. For years, Omar's work was famous the world over without anyone knowing his name. His anonymously authored blog, Mosul Eye, became a rare, reliable source of information from inside northern Iraq during the darkest period of ISIS's control over the region. Omar refused to let his city be destroyed in silence, and he continues to tell the story of Mosul and its struggle for a better future today. His new book documents the work of bearing witness—sometimes while risking everything. I hope it inspires a new generation to defend freedom and transparency as he did and does.

We're used to thinking of open-source models as an unadulterated good. But in the case of AI, they can actually pose additional dangers, as @ReidHoffman and I got into at #CGI2026. I appreciated this nuanced discussion.

None of us who lived through 9/11 will ever forget the lives lost or the countless stories of heroism from the day. But a third of today's Americans are too young to have any memory of it. For them, the @Sept11Memorial is making a new digital learning experience available starting tomorrow. A free 35-minute film will feature the personal stories of survivors, family members, and first responders. Viewing guides and pre-program activities will be available for grades 3 through 12. We said we'd never forget—and part of that charge is making sure the next generation also remembers.Find the offerings at 911memorial.org/DLE.

In my decades of public service, I have rarely been as angry as I was the day the damning inspector general’s report was released about the EPA's response to the World Trade Center collapse. One of the most important lessons from 9/11 is that our leaders need to level with people and then follow through with actual results. Read my new piece in @TheAtlantic: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

Every instance of child marriage forecloses a world of possibilities for a young girl—and every year, 12 million girls are married before their 18th birthdays. These girls are robbed of the opportunity to grow up safe and healthy and to pursue an education. In turn, the world loses their participation, their talents, and their ideas. I am so grateful to @FirstLadyBio for her work to champion today's adopted U.N. resolution to establish an International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early and Forced Marriage. As First Lady of Sierra Leone, she has led her country to push for change alongside Cape Verde, Costa Rica, and Morocco. Child marriage remains one of the most urgent, preventable violations of girls’ rights. Today's resolution is an important step in the fight to recognize the right of girls and young women to freely and boldly decide their own futures.  We need even more resources and more political will to tackle this scourge. Everyone who sees this message can become a part of ending child marriage. A great place to start is by reading @ColumbiaIGP’s report on Accelerating Efforts to End Child Marriage, which I was proud to collaborate on with Dr. Maada Bio and @sherylsandberg earlier this year. The measure of a society is how it invests in its children. For decades, I have advocated for Head Start because every child deserves a strong start in life. Today, I stand with the more than 100 civil rights and child advocacy organizations opposing efforts to dismantle the program from within. Head Start is more than preschool. It supports healthy babies, working parents, and stronger families. You don't build a stronger nation by starving its children of opportunity.

Young women deserve the chance to get an education, pursue a career, and start a family when they're ready. That's what the Clinton administration's National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy—now Power to Decide—was all about. And it worked: teen pregnancies fell to an all-time low. Millions of women and girls pursued dreams they may have otherwise deferred. The Trump administration wants to turn back the clock. It's up to all of us to tell them in November that we won't go back.

ICE agents in Maine killed a father on his way to work yesterday: Joan Sebastian Guerrero, 26. The week before, agents in Houston killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, a father of three. Maybe Vance doesn't know this history because it's in one of the books his administration banned. The difference between Watergate and now is that back then, Republicans actually did something about a law-breaking president. Today, they only roll over for their cult leader.

As a World Cup host, the U.S. shouldn't be flippantly barring officials from entering the country to do their jobs. It's terribly backward. It's also counterproductive. Global sports competitions should improve international exchange and relations, not the reverse.
