How to keep a client for an avg of 20.6 months... Day 5 of 5! Be a creative consigliere. We make ads, that's our job. But we are also creative and smart people who have seen a lot of successes and failures. Want our opinion on landing pages? No problem. Personas? We have thoughts. Offer? We'll tell you what we have seen that works. Even if we aren't be paid for it, any help we can provide that helps the biz or any stage of the funnel will only help our ads do well in the long run. Hell we've even sourced other talent for clients. It's easy to get fired when you just do one thing, even if you do it well. But when you are less of a creator vendor and more of a creative consigliere, you will form a much deeper and lasting relationship. That's the end of the series! Lmk if you want me to do more like this... or I could just yap about openclaw or something...
How to keep a client for an avg of 20.6 months... Day 4 of 5 Flexibility built into the scope! I would say that most agencies, especially fixed fee, create SOWs that are designed to fail. At some point the needs change, the conditions change, the payment changes... and if you need to constantly revisit the scope you are opening up a window where you can get fired. As an agency, you actually DON'T want the client thinking about the SOW... ever. So all our scopes are variable from the beginning. If we get paid more, we make more ads, and vice versa. This has allowed us to scale up AND DOWN with a clients seasonal needs. I'll die on the hill that this is the BEST way to work for performance agencies. Because of this we have clients where we haven't touched the SOW in YEARS. We never need to ask for more fee, they never need to ask for more deliverables. It just works.

When did "problem agitation" turn into "complete identity destruction"? I know marketers have a low bar when it comes to ethics but recent trend of "use <insert product here> so your spouse doesn't cheat on you" is just gross. Same for most of Resilia's ads and anyone copying that playbook. There actually is a way to use AI songs and animations to tell a story that's more relevant (and effective) to the customer persona... ...or you can just say that your customers relationship is in shambles because they didn't take black garlic. AI has enabled the worst of us to become "storytellers" and the stories they tell are disgusting and a cancer in the feeds.

We don't always make ads over 4 minutes long... ...but when we do, they are dystopian parodies of social media product launches.

If the DR demons have us all beat... where do they go? I'm genuinely curious. I've known quite a few of them. The end-game as far as my experience goes is moving on to selling courses 🙄 or some other grift... It all falls apart at some point... so they must not have us beat at everything. Who are these DR demons we keep putting on a pedestal? Do they have kids? Do they have mortgages? Do they ever cash out their businesses? Do they ever.... create a brand?
See too many people justifying their lack of success by saying "I have a real brand though" First off, you don't. None of us do Secondly, how do you define a real brand? Is it through repeat purchase rate? If so, the DR demon supp brands have you beat Is it LTV? Again, DR demons have you beat Revenue? DR demons again Is it pretty images on a website? Everyone can have that with a few clicks In my mind having a real brand is simply that you are associated with something and that association sits deep in the collective conscious of the consumer market Again, none of us on here have this. I don't care how cool your brand guide is Mcdonalds has this, Coca Cola has this, Rolex has this The people I see coping about 'brand' are almost always just bad at ads and funnels and they need some way to make themselves feel better instead of just facing reality Skill issue

There is product-market fit, where everything is down stream of the product. And product-marketing fit, where everything is down stream of the marketing. I have absolutely seen the most mundane products be able to spend 7 figs on meta due to the advantages of the marketing apparatus alone. This 1-billy brands have both going on.
That media buying and creative strategy are always downstream of product and product market fit, never the business drivers. All the "a single ad can change the trajectory of your ad account" takes come from agencies selling creative lol.

You know what it's like to work with a legend... ...oh what's that? ... you haven't had the opportunity to access anyone of legendary status? Well if you run meta ads, this right here... is your opportunity 👇
When I left Meta this summer, I ended my goodbye note with a question: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?” For me, this is it. For years, @sammyptaz and I talked about building something together. We finally did. It’s called Build Things. We’re a growth marketing advisory and execution firm for consumer brands at an inflection point. We built it around a problem we’ve seen again and again: as brands scale, channels multiply, acquisition costs rise, and marketing gets harder to read. The hard part isn’t finding more tactics. It’s knowing what’s actually driving growth and where to invest next. We show brands what’s driving growth now, then build what’s next. Part strategist, part operator. We work alongside teams, with marketing decisions grounded in incrementality. Excited to finally share it. Looking forward to reconnecting with old friends in this space. The Resilia ad account is a pox upon the feeds of man. I had nothing to do with this, but I want to apologize on behalf of all marketers. We lose the plot sometimes.

Who are the "goodest" people in DTC right now? Not the best operators. Not the most cracked agent pilled degen. Not the person with the most lambos in their garage (we all know thats @SanjayAtPlay anyways) But the goodest. The person you interact with and say "you know, that's a really good person" or someone you have genuinely good interactions with. I'm looking for these folks. Plz tag anyone you know! 🙏

Creatives and brands don't understand what's going on. Generative AI video is like a magic spell. 🧙 You can just type any idea you have into existence. It's an absolutely amazing time to be a creative in DTC. And yet... they are generating TikTok shop UGC dupes? That is literally the OPPOSITE of the creative diversity that meta wants... and it's a sign the whole business is bankrupt of ideas. NOW is the time to test anything your brain can cook up. It's never been easier to generate a new format or concept that unlocks a new audience in new ways. This ad we made for FabFitFun wouldn't have been possible a few months ago. Now you can have a crazy idea on Monday and a crazy ad in the account on Wednesday. My fellow creatives, now is the time to live up to your title.

When the course link appear to me, I knew I had transcended into a new tax bracket. "3 days in 1 day" is the new 4-hour work week. LFG!
You haven’t ascended to the level of mindset where the link will appear

Y'all this is NOT A DRILL. Brands and agencies are hiring for detection and enforcement AGAINST other brands and agencies (competitors). 🗡️🗡️🗡️ I know a guy who does this. Do NOT get caught out as the first casualties in the upcoming "lawfare". 🪦
This is what turns AI UGC from gray hat ... to black hat.🏴 "Accepted legality" is really about enforcement, and there's nothing quite like the enforcement of a free market attorney when their kid's private school tuition comes due.💰 When you wake up Jan 1 from your NYE hangover, the only thing going brrrrrrr will be the red hot barrels of the demand-letter cannon. Meta ad libraries are public. This is fish in a barrel. I'm sure law firms already have brands in their sites... Target acquired.🎯 So... before you pop the champaign on a new year, be sure you've cleaned up your accounts. This is why real human creators will be more important than ever for 2027. Those networks need to be developed, now. We've spent years cultivated the best relationships with the best creators, as well as finding and developing new talent. This is what @nicolle5800's team does all day. It's paid off so far, and will pay off even more January 1st.

Having a built-in hype-woman is honestly... pretty special.♥️ @shhquietdarling I hope everyone finds a love in their life who can support their work... and occasionally humble them... (but hubbling only... like, twice a month... TOPS)
You being Jess's X hype-woman is one of my favorite dynamics on DTC X. I actually mean this: I think it's lovely. Even though I also know you're making fun of him here some. Which is also important work.

There has been a lot of talk about NY's new law requiring disclosures AI-generated people appear in ads. California just passed its version, effectifve January 1. The most major difference is CA's has a private right of action. That means consumer class actions are on the table and not just regulatory enforcement. In NY, only the state can enforce violations. In California, every CA consumer can. So, expect that plaintiffs' lawyers will be scouring the internet for noncompliant "AI UGC" in January.

The biggest risk with using AI to make better creative, strategy, or decisions in general... Is that you don't know what better is. You're just playing hot potato with your own slop grenade. There is no one-shotting hard problems. You need to go full-contact and SQUEEZE all the pressure points of your LLM output. This applies to AI SaaS as well, who wants to sell you a done-for-you solution. Sorry. Actual solutions are incredibly specific. The good news is that sparring with your LLM is EXACTLY the type of work that makes you better and keeps you ahead. Scrap it up!
