Speaking of Popemobiles 👀
On Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV met with executives of Mercedes-Benz, who are in Rome for a special exhibition, “A Century of the Popemobile.”
The Holy Father thanked the German automaker for its long-standing collaboration with the Holy See, beginning in 1930 when a Mercedes-Benz automobile was delivered to Pope Pius XI.
In his address, Pope Leo emphasized that the so-called “Popemobiles” have evolved from simply a means of transportation to “an instrument of encounter,” and thanked the executives for helping “facilitate the Church’s mission of reaching out to people and bringing a message of faith, of hope and of charity to the world.”

She’s my favorite.
Mid-2013, I was stationed at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ for a few weeks of training. Came down to Cape May one Saturday on a whim. Fell in love.
And then met this girl a few months later in KY, got married, and moved to Jersey a few years later.

Of late, much of my scholarship has been in military medical ethics and the int'l policy realm. In this new article in BMJ Military Health we discuss NATO's Allied Medical Publication 8.19 on military healthcare ethics:

Dual use research is an area I've been working on for some time now.
We were interested in criteria for scientific moratoria, why they are implemented or called for, etc. Here's our attempt to synthesize the literature, published in 'Applied Biosafety.'

I first read CS Lewis’ “The Abolition of Man” probably 15 years ago in seminary.
Now, colleagues and I reappropriated some of his writing for medical student character formation in this article:

Earlier this year I had a distinct privilege: the opportunity to interview a child survivor of two concentration camps: Joseph Polak. Rabbi Polak is the leading rabbinical authority on the permissible / impermissible use of the Pernkopf Atlas. 1/2

The Pernkopf Atlas is the Nazi anatomical atlas renowned for its detail and infamous for its use of persons who were murdered by the Nazis. We wrote up the interview and it's now published: doi.org/10.1002/ca.70171 2/2
