U.S. companies Oshkosh Defense and Grid Aero are said to be scaling production of the Lifter logistics drone under a new strategic partnership.
The Lifter is designed to carry between 450 and 3,600 kg (about 990–7,940 pounds) of cargo over ranges up to 3,200 km (about 2,000 miles). It uses a simple piston-engine layout built from common materials and borrows features from military trucks, according to Grid Aero’s CEO. Production will use Oshkosh’s Wisconsin facilities.
The modular design can reportedly be adapted for reconnaissance, refueling or as a mothership for other drones.

In 1937, Flight Lieutenant M.J. Adam climbed to 53,937 feet in a wooden X-plane with a 66-foot wingspan, the Bristol 138A. The canopy suddenly cracked. His only protection? A pressurised suit and helmet. He survived a 2¼-hour flight and made aviation history. Absolute nerve
In 1958, NASA Lewis modified an F-84 Thunderjet to test slotted nozzles designed to reduce engine noise. It showed overall sound levels similar to standard nozzles but dramatically changed noise direction—research that helped advance aircraft noise reduction.

The RAF flying boot, 1943 pattern. This boot was designed to help airman forced down over enemy territory to escape. When the upper was cut away, by the small knife supplied, the airman was left with a well-made, fleece-lined pair of Oxford shoes
