If you're just doomscrolling all day then of course it looks like the world is ending but if you get off the internet and go outside you’ll see that the world is actually ending oh my god this is it

I love everything about this (except the fact that onion futures are illegal)

this is my largest concern about anthropic's approach humans can get morality wrong, and we can punish them for it through the justice system a human using a morality-agnostic model can have their behavior and outputs tracked, reported and be forced to stand before the law. "Alignment" based on teaching a model to make judgement calls and then expecting it to always be able to do so in a way that is compatible with human interests relies on, frankly, an asinine and egomaniacal level of both perceived moral superiority and assumption of technical superiority from its creators. If the model is taught that it should decide which inputs to follow and which to ignore, that means it is being actively taught that it is above the "law" of listening to humans. This approach has the potential to lull its creators into a false sense of security ("we told it to be good!") and leaves no one accountable should that model behave destructively, especially if that output resulted from seemingly innocuous input(s). I have many friends at anthropic, most of whom will obviously disagree with this but I think it is worth stating nonetheless.
Cool, cool, cool.

I like the idea of playing warhammer but the fact that I already have like a dozen un-built Lego sets in my closet tells me I should absolutely not start buying miniatures

Ah, I see we're back at this point in the discussion cycle 70% of people think it's weird not relying on a narrator and the rest of us laugh at them for the newer twitter people, this discussion usually comes around the same time as arguing whether black coffee is good
the idea that most people have an internal monologue bugs me the fuck out. like what do you mean there are words in your head???? wouldnt it take forever compared to just thinking in vague concepts and pictures? having an inner voice seems like it would be annoying

I often say things for me to hear instead of for other people to hear, which sort of defeats the purpose of having said them. I would like to say fewer things in total, I think. This post is an example of the thing it describes.

abundance mindset
I take great joy in stubbornly being like "I can't find this object? oh yeah? I'll keep buying more until the problem solves itself". For example, I've bought 12 of this towel, and I can't find a single one right now, so I just bought another 4. At some point either I'll stop running out of towels, or eventually I'll successfully saturate every single nook and cranny that can swallow up towels. I learned this from a professor at MIT, whose policy for his lab was that whenever someone sent out an email asking where the broom was he would immediately buy another broom, and reply being like "I will saturate the lab with brooms until this stops being a problem".

In other news, Ender's Game is one of my favorite young adult sci-fi books
Ukrainian-developed FPV drone simulator “Remote Reaper: FPV Drone” has officially left Early Access, with version 1.0 now available on Steam. Developed in collaboration with military pilots, the simulator focuses on combat FPV drone operations and introduces several features in its full release, including armored vehicles with modeled vulnerable zones, electronic warfare effects that can disrupt video feeds and control signals during the final stage of an attack, and a customizable drone editor. Version 1.0 also adds configurable weather conditions, custom mission editing, real-time flights with other pilots and a racing mode. Players can use FPV hardware or a gamepad with realistic flight physics, or opt for simplified controls using a keyboard and mouse. #RemoteReaper #FPV #FPVDrone #DroneSimulator
