Deakin Distinguished Professor Catherine Bennett appeared on multiple media agencies yesterday speaking to reports of a spike in Chinese human metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases does not necessarily mean the world is facing a repeat of COVID-19. Prof Bennett sought to downplay the threat posed by HMPV to other nations, sharing, "This is not a new virus but rather one that we have seen before and which contributes to our seasonal respiratory disease, especially in the very young and very old." Prof @gary_sacks joined Trent Nikolic on @2GB873 yesterday about banning junk food advertising following the recent SA government ban on unhealthy food advertising on public transport. Prof Sacks said a ban is the way we need to head and that the health consequences we’re facing with unhealthy diets are even worse than it is with tobacco. Congratulations to Paula Aines on the publication of her research. Paula concluded maternal and child health services need to be appropriately tailored to improve accessibility and meet the unmet needs of pregnant women in Papua New Guinea. @DeakinQPS authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti…

2024 marked the 15th anniversary of the Institute’s Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research (QPS), a momentous milestone for this leading Australian centre for applied health services research. QPS’s work impacts over 33,000 nurses annually and touches the care of more than three million patients and aged care residents across urban, regional, and rural settings. Its programs span both public and private healthcare sectors, focusing on patient safety, patient experience, and workforce improvement. QPS’s distinctive model is rooted in its embedded partnerships with leading Victorian healthcare providers, including @AlfredHealth, @BarwonHealth, @Epworth Healthcare, @western_health, @easternhealthau, and @MonashHealth. This approach is further enhanced by co-funded roles, creating genuine collaboration between researchers and industry partners. “Unlike typical research partnerships, our researchers are fully embedded within organisations,” says Prof Tracey Bucknall @nursedecisions. “This ensures our work is meaningful, relevant, and highly impactful.” Read more: deakin.au/4081Tik
