It's hard to find a chapter of the last three decades of corn advocacy that Kenneth Hartman Jr. didn't help write. As he completes his service as chairman of NCGA's Corn Board, we want to take a moment to thank him for a career that has shaped this organization and improved the lives of corn farmers across the country.
Kenny's story starts in Waterloo, Illinois, where he is a fifth-generation farmer. He runs the family grain operation with his wife, Anita, his mother, Joann, and his daughter, Amanda. Over the years, the Hartmans have grown specialty crops like tofu soybeans and white corn, and they were among the first to adopt precision farming technologies. His daughters, Alexis and Ashley, have taken their talents off the farm to the professional world. In 2021, Prairie Farmer recognized Kenny as a Master Farmer for his outstanding production skills and his deep commitment to family and service.
Once on the Corn Board, Kenny took on one responsibility after another. He eventually went on to lead the entire organization as NCGA president before stepping into his current role as chairman.
Illinois has benefited from his leadership, too. Kenny is a past president of the Illinois Corn Growers Association, a past chairman of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, and a member of the Illinois Leadership Council for Ag Education.
Kenny, words can't fully capture what your leadership has meant to corn growers. Thank you for the countless miles, meetings, and hours you've given to this work, and thank you to the Hartman family for sharing you with us for so long. Your legacy will be felt in farm country for many years to come.
