Yet while investment remains strong, the latest @Parkwalk_VC and @Beauhurst Equity Investment into Spinouts report highlights a growing challenge: ensuring innovative businesses can access the scale-up capital they need to fulfil their potential.

📊 The report deep dives into the investment trends impacting the UK’s most promising science and technology companies. It reveals H1 2026 to have been a near-record half-year, with spinouts raising £1.56bn.
🔬British science is now attracting substantial later-stage investment, at £760m in H1 2026 – its highest half-year since 2021.
💡 With spinouts raising larger rounds, the report demonstrates the major opportunity for more domestic institutional capital to invest alongside – with significant value on offer for savers, entrepreneurs, the economy and society.
🤝 Together with Parkwalk, we have backed 42 deals over the past year and continue to play a leading role in supporting the sector with scale-up capital. We have now invested in 98 later-stage companies over the past decade.

📈 Following the transaction, IP Group remains one of Oxford Nanopore's largest shareholders, retaining a 7.23% stake.
The realisation demonstrates our ability to generate cash from maturing portfolio companies while maintaining meaningful exposure to future value creation. The proceeds further strengthen our financial flexibility and support disciplined capital allocation across the portfolio and broader Group priorities.

Today, First Light announced the successful demonstration of a key fuel compression principle underpinning FLARE, its proprietary approach to inertial fusion.
