A new JEQ review "Defining stream riparian zones across multidimensional environmental gradients" is available to read free online here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70080

Defining stream riparian zones across multidimensional environmental gradients

Functional properties determine effective riparian widths. Multiple physical gradients independently affect functional properties. Sharp and heterogeneous physical gradients near streams dictate...

A new JEQ study covers human dietary exposure to PFAS via beef raised on corn stover from a field with contaminated biosolids. Read the #OpenAccess paper for free here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70067

Per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances in agricultural systems: Human dietary exposure via beef raised...

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances were not detected in corn kernels, even in soils with >100 ng/g perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) from biosolid applications. Measured and literature-based...

New review publication in JEQ! "A comprehensive review on the sources, environmental behavior, and degradation of alkylphenol ethoxylates and their metabolites in surface water and soils" Read for free here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70059 @huanc_ee

A comprehensive review on the sources, environmental behavior, and degradation of alkylphenol...

Alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) tend to accumulate significantly in solid phases, particularly in those with high organic matter content. Key sources in surface water and soils include stormwater...

A new #OpenAccess paper in JEQ explores how wet-dry cycles control the emissions and sources of greenhouse gases in agricultural soil @UAlberta doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70062

Wet‐dry cycles control the emissions and sources of greenhouse gases in agricultural soil: An...

Rewetting events triggered pronounced temporary increases in N2O and CO2 production. Pre-existing soil organic matter nitrogen (SOM-N) was the dominant source of N2O. Urea-derived N2O disproportion...

A new #OpenAccess paper in JEQ found delaying nitrogen fertilizer application by 4–5 weeks and adding dual inhibitors with the fertilizer reduced nitrous oxide losses and increased corn yields. Read for free here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70044

Delaying application and injecting nitrogen fertilizer with urease and nitrification inhibitors...

Side-dress nitrogen (N) increased corn yields by 13% compared to pre-plant N (N applied the same day as planting). Pre-plant injected urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) with a urease inhibitor increased...

A new study by @DebSahas, @jashanjeet_kaur, @FacundoLussich, @USDA_NIFA, @UTIAg covers long-term cover cropping and nitrogen fertilization impacts on net global warming potential of continuous no-till cotton cropping systems. Read it here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70046

Long‐term cover cropping and nitrogen fertilization impacts on net global warming potential of...

Long-term hairy vetch and N fertilization increased SOC stock, but also increased N2O emissions. Nitrous oxide emissions largely drive net global warming potential (GWP). Hairy vetch and fertilized...

A new #OpenAccess study in JEQ Methods explores dead-end ultrafiltration, an efficient method for sampling water from the field environment to test for the presence of human pathogens. Read for free online here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70035

Validation and use of the dead‐end ultrafiltration method for the capture and recovery of Shiga...

A validation study using dead-end ultrafiltration to recover Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli was completed. Multiple filter brands were tested in the filtration of 100 L of surface water...

A new study in JEQ estimates black carbon emissions from biomass burning in different geographic regions worldwide at a resolution of 0.25° × 0.25° from 1997 to 2023. Read it online here: doi.org/10.1002/jeq2.70019

Estimates of black carbon emissions from global biomass burning for the period 1997–2023

The high black carbon (BC) emissions between 2003 and 2008 were associated with increased precipitation. BC emissions originating from Southern Hemisphere Africa (SHAF) accounted for approximately...
