Been following this rumor with extreme curiosity.
🔹Battlefront 3 was reportedly 'almost completely finished' a long while back with Free Radical, so it's possible the game's near-completion status would remain during transition to whoever secures rights.
🔹Not sure what engine SWB3 was built on, whether Frostbite or otherwise, while Bungie uses upgraded versions of its own Tiger Engine. DICE already using Frostbite could give them a higher consideration due to environment ease if SWB3 was already developed with it.
🔹Bungie being chosen would be a massive opportunity for IP expansions. An established IP like SWB would open opportunities for future titles focused on Bungie's iconic narrative designs and looter-shooter genre possibilities which may be likely early talking points.
🔹DICE has a bit more leverage to the SWB franchise with prior connections to SWB launches, a larger developer count, and familiarity to large-scale multiplayer and action-adventure.
If I had to make an estimated guess, DICE may be the one selected first simply on studio footprint and prior experience with the franchise, but Bungie could also come in hot if DICE is caught up with other development commitments. If so, Bungie would be able to work more closely with LucasArts just like they did with Renegades to develop content. Renegades also did an incredible job of showing Bungie's ability to create a shared world and could hold a ton of weight.
If rumors become true and Bungie is selected, I believe in Bungie's ability to succeed.
🚨 NEW: Bungie could develop Star Wars Battlefront 3, as Lucasfilm is reportedly "aggressively" searching for a developer, with EA DICE also in the running, per new rumor -
