I’ve returned from summer hiatus, and I finished this book! Just sent it off to my agent. I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever written, and if he says a SINGLE negative thing about it I’m going to have a very public meltdown 😇 also i missed you all

My 1st-ever published poem was in @TheFLReview in 1981. I haven't made it back until now. This poem's another 1st, as I've never before written a golden shovel. Sincere 🙏 to the journal & editor @Jake_Wolff for the care they took with it & to @katieengelhart for the inspiration.

Hi friends, some job news: I’ve accepted a fiction faculty position at the University of South Florida, starting this fall. Along with being able to work with the awesome MFA students there, I’ll also get to live in the same city as my spouse for the first time in 5 years !!

P.S. this does mean I will eventually (not yet!) have to step down as editor of The Florida Review. But stay tuned b/c we’ve already picked my replacement, and while I’ll let him share that news…let me tell you, it’s VERY exciting news for the journal

AWP book fair update: met lots of nice people so far! Also met one lady who said she did NOT want a free pin but then slowly, silently rearranged them on the table one by one. VERY creepy, VERY awesome move.
