As much as I want to talk to my kids after their games I allow myself 4 questions: 1. Did you have fun? 2. Did you try your hardest? 3. What did you did well or what are you proud of? 4. Is there anything you want help with? And lastly... positive cheers from the sidelines!!

If I could give youth coaches one reminder heading into the season: Don't sacrifice development trying to win a game nobody will remember in 5 years. COMPETE to win today. DEVELOP for tomorrow.

Dear AAU Parents, Please take a little advice from a parent who has been around AAU basketball as a Coach & parent for 20+ years. Stop chasing imaginary rankings from paid services like PGH and cool social media posts from programs that over hype players on socials because that is all they can offer. Don't get caught up with trainers who are only worried about your children when they are in their gym. Ask real questions of program directors about approach on player development, college relationships and track record of getting players to college programs. Ask directors about recruiting plans for their players. Pay attention to programs that retain players and are not out recruiting over entire rosters year over year. Track record & trust between families & programs matters; especially in a rapidly changing recruiting landscape, you better be with a program that is committed to all their players and not just a few high profile girls. The top of EVERY circuit has really good players/teams but the bottom of EVERY circuit has bad teams too. Being on an EYBL or 3SSB team, and playing 6-8 mpg can really hurt your recruitment. Not every program is a fit for every player/family but PLEASE do your homework!! Have honest discussions about potential level of play in college and where your child might fit. Be very weary of anyone who only talks about D1. Winning games in AAU is nice and hopefully your daughter is competitive and wants to win but it ultimately doesn't mean anything and not many college coaches are paying attention to the score unless one team is getting smoked. In fact, a coach might pay more attention to how your daughter is acting as a player when they are losing vs how they are playing in a 25pt win. Good luck to all as the girls get prepared for the High School season. @nj_panthers @CoachJordanNJP @unitedNJaau @ShoreshotsGirls @newjerseyrise @ESBC_BlueFlames @NJLadiesHoops @TinyGreenNBS @coachschoiceusa

One of the easiest ways to improve your team: Celebrate the PASSER. Point to them. High five them. Praise the extra pass. Make creating a great shot for a teammate as exciting as scoring.

Kyler Murray and Kevin O’Connell are either not on the same page, or the page they’re both on is a stupid one.

Minnesota's head coach just launched himself into a mob of his own players at full sprint. P.J. Fleck crowd-surfs after every win, today's was his 100th, and the mania took 15 years to build. It started with the worst thing that can happen to a person. In February 2011, Fleck's infant son Colt died of a heart condition. Fleck was a 30-year-old receivers coach at the time. He came up with a phrase to get himself out of bed. Row the boat. Your back faces the future, you can't see what's coming, all you control is the oar. Two years later Western Michigan made him the youngest head coach in the FBS. He went 1-11 his first season and people laughed at the boat stuff. By 2016 the same program went 13-0 and made the Cotton Bowl. When Minnesota hired him away in 2017, there was a catch. Western Michigan had trademarked "Row the Boat." The school owned the legal rights to the phrase he created for his son. Fleck paid them $50,000 out of his own pocket, structured as a scholarship for a walk-on player, to take the words with him. Nine years of rowing later, today happened. Minnesota beat #24 Michigan 20-14, took back the Little Brown Jug for the first time since 2014, and beat them at home for the first time in 49 years. 51,012 fans stormed the field. So yes, the man flies into that pile looking slightly unhinged. He knows better than anyone in that locker room that you don't get to choose which days are the good ones. You just keep rowing until one shows up.
Minnesota beat Michigan earlier today, and this might the best postgame locker room video I've ever seen 😲😲

The Vikings currently have the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL. They just traded the QB they drafted in the first round 3 years ago. Part of that decision is fueled by not wanting to answer questions about why he isn’t playing?

3 on 3 basketball play with friends & touch the ball a lot - without coaches yelling or an emphasis on winning. And today I watched 2 sets of 5th grade parents go after a ref, & 4th grade parent lie about winning.

Average NBA catch-and-shoot 3: 36%. Off a strike-zone pass: 42%. Off a bad pass: 29%. Your passer decides your shooter's percentage. Coach the pass.

The 5-for-5 rule isn’t just reducing opportunities for high school recruits - it’s impacting scholarship $$ too. We’ve seen several D3 $$ packages match or beat D2 offers. Keep an open mind to every level! @Assist_U_ @CoachJillDunn
