Research without action is just talk. ResearchEd Toronto made space for the candid, sometimes uncomfortable truths that actually move practice forward. @nsachdeva2019 @researchED_US @researchEDCan #rEDTO2026 @researchED_US

Three Books That Matter: UK Schools Minister Nick Gibb identifies three books that sparked the English school system reforms, ED Hirsch (1996), Dan T Willingham (2009), Daisy Christodoulou (2014). All were popularized by @researchED1 and informed the reforms #rEDTO2026 #cdned

Failing the Test Again: Why is Nova Scotia engaged in conducting student assessments? Nova Scotia AG reports it's unclear & likely a matter of "compliance." Student results are NOT used to improve student learning, teaching, or curriculum reform #cdned saltwire.com/nova-scotia/hal…

AG report may be more optimistic than warranted. How many students had text read to them by a reader or AT—or, in writing, used a scribe? If students cannot decode the text, we have not taught them to be proficient readers.
Student Assessment Results: Nova Scotia spends $700K on provincial testing, administers 75,000 tests, then makes little use of the results. It's time for an Independent Sudent Assessment Agency to establish a semblance of accountability. @AvisGlaze ctvnews.ca/atlantic/article/…

Whatever book you pick up, it’s likely to make you feel better—maybe even a whole lot better. “In a secular age, I suspect that reading fiction is one of the few remaining paths to transcendence, that elusive state in which the distance between the self and the universe shrinks,” Ceridwen Dovey writes, in “Can Reading Make You Happier?,” which was published in 2015. A comment on my latest episode captures a big part of the reason kids are not proficient in math. A) Bad curriculum/program (in this case Illustrative Math) B) Administrators more worried about compliance than whether kids can actually do math. The priorities are backwards.

This is a must listen on math instruction with @rastokke . A discussion long overdue — our students have been pushed out of math for far too long! Starts at 46 mins. cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-6…
