In running, it's (usually) a good idea to do *more* of things like mileage or cross-training. But you can also get better by doing less: - Reducing strength workouts to 1-2/week - Skipping 'non-specific' cross-training - Many group runs or club workouts per week? Time to focus!

Variability is the unsung hero for reducing injury risk. Repetitive stress injuries are less common with less repetition. So... 1. Rotate 2-3 pairs of shoes 2. Run on a variety of surfaces 3. Vary paces throughout the week 4. Train for different events 5. Do strength + mobility

Man, Lindsay Phenix is getting me excited about ultras! Our conversation on the Strength Running Podcast about 100 milers was so inspiring. The gears are turning…

Sometimes, I simply don't understand runners. "I'm not aiming to race the event, but I want to finish as strongly as possible." How do you interpret this?

What if you took 10+ years away from running... could you make a comeback in your 40's and get faster than you were in your 20's? This is a case study of Briana, who did exactly that: strengthrunning.com/2026/10/…

I just wrote up a big article about this client: strengthrunning.com/2026/10/…
Want to run a marathon PR? It might be strategic to AVOID a WMM. One of my athletes just ran Berlin. Her problems: - Huge time change, no adjustment - Extremely long porta potty lines - No area to warm up - City race will impact GPS/early pace - Too much walking pre-race

What you define as success today might be ordinary a year from now. Or, it might be unattainable. Don't forget to regularly revise your version of success so you're appropriately challenging yourself!

One of my clients is almost 70 years old and is doing her first HYROX. It's easy to gloss over these things. But competing in HYROX at this age is impressive and demonstrates a substantial amount of fitness and function. We should all strive for this kind of longevity 💪

How you show up for one thing is NOT how you show up for everything. Runners can be process-oriented, methodical, and precise with every workout. This is a good thing! But easy runs can be more subjective, flexible, and accommodating. Running is beautiful because of this.

This is wrong on so many levels. 1. Research shows that running is likely protective to your knees, and at worst, doesn't harm. 2. Your ancestors jogged. They walked lots, jogged, steady, ran hard, sprinted...all in hunts. 3. This guys sprint is slower than a jog.
You jog 4 miles every morning and your waistline hasn't improved at all. You've destroyed your knees for nothing. Of all the ways to exercise, the light jog is one of the worst. Your ancestors walked most of the day and ran all out when they had to go after prey, or run away from a threat, or toward a child in danger. They didn't jog. Walk. Sprint. Skip the middle.

A new coaching client told me: "The more I run, the more I find my gains come from insight into the sport, its tactics, rather than from increasing fitness alone." Wise words! I like to say, "Knowledge is a competitive advantage"

Some details about the Baystate Marathon OTQ fiasco from @slorgebutler “The fee for sanctioning a race of Baystate’s size, 2,385 finishers in 2026 across the marathon and half marathon, would be roughly $2,000, or less than $1 per finisher...” runnersworld.com/news/a74191…
