Parents when was the last time you just enjoyed watching your kid play? Instead of critiquing everything, just sit back & enjoy something you created doing something they love. A day will come when you won’t have the opportunity. Don’t rob yourself & your child of the memories.

I signed to UCLA my junior year of high school and was told I was going to start Day 1. Opening Day at UCLA? I was sitting the bench. 😭 I had 2 choices: 1. Complain, pout, and blame the coaches OR 2. Find the holes on the team and become valuable. So for 3 weeks, I sat the bench. I showed up early. Stayed late. Cheered for my teammates. Dragged the field every 3rd inning. Meanwhile, I studied the team. The middle infielders were doing well. Third base wasn’t. So I told the coaches: “I can play third.” Then I noticed something else: Offensively, we were either hitting home runs or getting out. I saw the gap. If I could become a tough out, get on base, and bring energy to the team… I could create value. Then we played Miami. The starting third baseman was hitting .115. They gave me a shot. I went 2 for 3 with a walk. Played solid defense. Brought energy. I never sat the bench again. Eventually, I became team captain… and we were ranked #1 in the country. One thing baseball taught me: Opportunities don’t always go to the most talented player. Sometimes they go to the player who becomes the most valuable.

I have a great deal of respect for the men that we compete against in the arena…We battled. They won. 👊🏻
Really good moment: Dan Hurley and the entire UConn team waited for the Michigan players to come back after their immediate celebration to shake their heads and congratulate them on winning the national title.

Had such a great time being back on LMU's Smith Field. I'm grateful to @Imulionssb for hosting such an awesome team camp! I truly appreciate all the support and feedback from Coach Flowers, Coach Bianca, and Coach Shelby. I also loved the Q&A with some of your players-thank you for sharing your recruiting journeys, Lindsay & Sakora-along with touring the facilities and beautiful campus, and hearing the motivational words from our guest speaker, @jason_flowers. Thank you to @athleticsmarinakis for helping to arrange this incredible experience. Opportunities like this make our dreams feel that much closer to reality. Go Lions! #LMUSoftball #TeamCamp #D1Softball #Pitcher #RecruitingJourney

Charging to park at a public high school (or any high school for that matter) for a school athletic event, at the school, is ridiculous.

Watched my son play his last college game yesterday. Fathers with young kids, please heed this advice. NEVER MISS A THING! Go to every practice, game, etc. you can. Take them outside to play ball every time they ask. The time will go by unbelievably fast. Blink and you’ll miss it

People act like “advantage/disadvantage” and “constraints-led” drills are new. The constraints-led approach isn’t new. It’s just new language for old truths. Coaches were doing this decades ago — they just called it practice. We did 3v3 full court no dribble when I was in high school in 2010. Bobby Knight was running no-dribble half-court in the 90s and 2000s. Dean Smith and Wooden built 3-on-3 constraints into their teaching. None of it had buzzwords. I respect what others have done making these ideas accessible — but let’s not pretend they reinvented basketball. They didn’t discover a new land. They just built a resort on it. They didn’t invent fire. They just gave it a TED Talk. Clip from @ChampProduction piped.video/watch?v=tQzvt0fj…

🗣️ Jeff Peterson: "There is one person I want to shout out specifically, and that's Pat Connaughton. I'll be fully transparent with you guys. When we made the trade for Pat, I talked to him and I said, 'you're probably not making the team.'" "And I give him all the credit in the world because he showed up. He didn't have to be here. He could have just said, 'I'm just gonna chill in Texas with my family and figure out my next move,' but he's been with you guys every step of the way, competing." "He and Charles have had conversations. I've had conversations with him. He knows that if he plays 5 minutes or if he may not play for 20 straight games, why he's on this team is because he's about everything that we're about: Hornets DNA." "You talk about controlling controllables. Anytime his name is called, he's ready to go in the game. He's staying ready. He's busting his ass. He's a professional. So if there's any doubt at any time of what we're about, look at what he did. Because it was all in his control, in terms of his attitude, his approach, showing up every day doing what he could control, and obviously it paid off."

S/O to all the HS coaches out there putting in serious work in your program To the ones running pre-season workouts, having staff meetings/retreats, building relationships with your players, fundraising money to help your program have extra tools or better gear for your players Cont’d … for the ones running feeder workouts and tryouts and organizing coaches and putting out fires … and teaching a full day of classes I see you. Keep impacting. Keep growing. And maybe most importantly as you strive for excellence as a coach & leader, remember your home, your family, your spouse…be great for them too

Whoever scheduled having a lane of the 405 closed on a Saturday, I hope you get really hungry, go through your favorite fast food drive thru, order your favorite food and get home and find out they gave you the wrong order…and your Sprite is just carbonated water.
