My son started washing windows for Subway when he was 10.
I made him save his money, in fact, I took it from him and saved it for him.🤭 He didn’t know I invested it in Apple and then slid in to Tesla.
He graduated from washing windows for Subway, to mowing lawns in the neighborhood.
I continued giving him a little bit of his money while saving the rest.
Along the way he used to jokingly say to to me, “Mom you’re spending my money, aren’t you?”
I would laugh, and tell him that someday he would greatly appreciate this.
We did have a few come to Jesus moments when he wanted to purchase things that were a waste of money and I wouldn’t allow it.
In the course of our HOMESCHOOL, when he was 11, I had him open up a savings account. Not that today we use the transaction register, I don’t. But, I made him do this for Homeschool .
It really gave him a good sense about how his money was growing when he physically had to write it down.
So from the age of 10 until 16, he saved enough to pay cash for his first car.
That’s when the rubber met the road, and he realized how important it was to save his money.
This was in 2021.
He purchased a 2011 Honda Accord with 24,000 miles on it. Yes, 24k miles was it!!!
Mint, pristine condition.
$14K
Stickered 26,000
He owned it for 4 months before some bone head came along and did this, right after he had pulled it into the street to play basketball in the driveway.
The Chevy Silverado that rear ended his car, literally missed him by 10 feet. He had just came out from behind the car and stepped up on the driveway when the guy came through.
Not only did he take out my son’s car, he took out our mailbox as well, which was in the ground with concrete.
He was thankful, and acknowledged how blessed he was to have avoided death or serious harm. It was just a car.
Guess what his homeschool project was the following week? 🤭🤭
