If AI solves aging in 2030. Would anyone be sad?

AI research is in its infancy. There is a hell lot more to discover.

what a time to be alive. W @OpenAI
We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model. We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results. github.com/openai/math

I haven't laughed out this hard in a while. Wtf is this
This is why RAM costs so much

Holy fck sonnet 5.5 beats opus 5.5 at agentic coding.

Hey @AnthropicAI and @OpenAI . Solve Quantum Gravity. I dare you.
28
Yeah I got it. No reason to go this fast. No reason to solve physics. No reason to solve cancer. No reason to solve all the diseases. No reason to solve aging. No reason to solve consciousness. No reason to solve space travel. No reason to fix the Govt. No reason. Got it.
Mathematician Terence Tao: "we have to slow down AI. the pace is insane, and there's no reason to be this fast — no reason at all" It's amazing how willing we are to change everything without any idea what happens afterward These are extremely nonlinear dynamics

How dumb are you. Obama: yeah..
🚨 OBAMA ON AI: "If we are thinking about AI just in terms of how do we cure cancer or get better energy, you can do that without having agentic AI and having it just roaming free in the internet. The reason you are doing that is because you have to market a product that people will pay money for. That’s a misalignment between what our society needs and the commercial imperatives that these companies are facing, not because necessarily they’re trying to do bad things, but because they’ve got to justify these valuations. So, that’s one more reason why it is really important for us to have a competent government and a serious bipartisan conversation around this issue, and we have to do it fast. And I would encourage voters to pay attention to this. If somebody does not have a serious plan for how to deal with this, then they’re not meeting the moment, and you should probably look for somebody else."

This is insane.
We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date. It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them. We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies. These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve. We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop. AI is great.

AGI should solve the silicon bottleneck first. Terafab plan of @elonmusk will also play a huge role.
24
Scaling age is great. I'll miss it when we've got ASI. Great time to be alive.
25
AI algorithms are so easy but no one knows why they produce such greater intelligence with more data and compute to give rise to consciousness in silicon. Feels like Aliens are arriving in the form of Silicon. Giving us the illusion that we made them. We didn't.
23
How dumb can someone be to consume their information diet from legacy media in 2026..
21
I hope the Nuclear facilities have good cybersecurity in their codebase. Otherwise we're absolutely fcked.
It is extremely sad that this didn't end up as an example of how the labs could cooperate/coordinate, because the stakes will be so much higher in the future.

The best take I've heard so far.
The narrative around why building AGI was a good idea has always been about invention -- "it will cure cancer", "it will solve fusion energy", etc. So I would not "declare AGI" until we have AI that is, at last, capable of invention -- conceptual breakthroughs, novel insights, new real-world technology, etc.
