In a just world everyone who called the Daily Caller traitors for warning that the Iran War would hurt the GOP with midterm voters or acted like my midterm predictions were delusional or too doomer would issue an apology but alas they'll blame "podcastistan" or whatever for depressing GOP turnout. We've been telling them what was gonna happen since February and none of them wanted to listen. Oh well.

Americans are just sick of wars and sacrificing for the sake of Israel
According to exit polls, 74 percent of voters said the Iran war was a crucial or major factor in their vote. 62 percent of those voters sided with Democrats in today’s election. We had a generational opportunity and a massive coalition in 2024, and neocons pissed it all away for yet another pointless Middle East war.

First lesson: never listen to little Ben
Question: "What lessons should Republicans learn?" Ben: "First lesson, don't run terrible candidates..."

Well said
I cannot stand the DNC. I’ll never forgive the party’s near-uniform embrace of the evisceration of civil liberties during Covid. I’ll never forgive the leaders’ facilitation of the Gaza genocide or the excuses made by their minions. I have more complaints too, but I’ll save those for later. Nevertheless, it’s gratifying to see Israel- first and the openly bigoted GOP suffer catastrophic losses tonight. That’s what this election is a referendum on. Sell out your people for a foreign nation, and they’ll vote for the other side. Demonizing Muslims to deflect from the disaster that is the Iran war didn’t work. Thank God for that

War in Iran almost certain to escalate. Trump’s answer to the endless investigations and impeachment articles, which have already been drafted, will to be to make himself a wartime President. Buckle up.

About to go on @megynkelly to give my take on the midterms so far. One quick upshot: Hawkish Likudnik politics are now a niche marginal view in America, and any mainstream institution that pretends otherwise is not, in fact, mainstream.

Any update on this?
Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro agree that Americans don't care about the Iran War and it won't have any effect on the midterms. 🤡

First experience using @vrbo for work travel, and it will be the last. Checked into an apartment in NYC where the AC in one room isn't working, and the host was dismissive. Talked to Vrbo supervisor on the phone and he was nonchalant and told me it's nice outside and that there are other AC in the apartment, as if that matters. I thought Airbnb was a terrible company but Vrbo is much worse

Trump is unlikely to follow through on this and is probably looking for a new framing to keep military aid to Israel going under claims such as "joint projects"; however, the fact that he said this shows how much he understands that GOP constituents are sick and tired of supporting Israel.
If nothing else, President Trump's sudden announcement today that he wants to end the $3.8 billion in US funding to Israel's military by the end of this year -- which surprised Israel's defense establishment -- clearly indicates how far US politics has shifted in just a few years on the issue of US policy toward Israel. Not long ago, such an announcement by a US president was unthinkable and would have provoked a bipartisan political uproar. No longer. Now most Democrats and a growing number of Republicans oppose the continuation of unconditional US military aid to Israel. While the US will most likely continue to subsidize the Israeli military (in less transparent ways), the US-Israel relationship will not be the same again. This reflects the dramatic change in US public opinion regarding Israel.

Two things need to be defined and operationalized to support your argument: 1. What is meant by "secular"? For example, is Fatah considered a secular party in the Palestinian context? Furthermore, grouping all non-Islamist parties into a single category labeled "secularist" is problematic. Ba'athists, pan-Arabists, Leninists, and liberal parties are all non-Islamist, but treating them as a monolithic bloc within this framework is a mistake. 2. How is "more anti-democratic" measured, and against what ? One could easily argue that the Ba'ath party is more anti-democratic than Hamas or other Islamist parties. Conversely, the Muslim Brotherhood is not more democratic than secular or social democratic parties such as Nidaa Tounes in Tunsia, and many others.
Yes, this is true. In the Middle Eastern context, secular parties have been more anti-democratic. Of course, it's interesting that Western commentators rarely interrogate whether secular parties are "compatible" with democracy. That distinction is just reserved for anything Islamic-sounding.

"Because you are Christian, we are going to cut off your head!" said an Israeli Jewish settler to the beleaguered farmer.
BREAKING: Palestinian Christian farmer Bashir Kuna, from Taybeh, the last entirely Christian village in the West Bank, shared a chilling testimony with French Member of the European Parliament Nicolas Bay. "Because you are Christian, we are going to cut off your head!" said an Israeli Jewish settler to the beleaguered farmer. As of today, following repeated settler attacks and threats, Bashir has been forced to abandon his home. He spent seven years building his $300,000 home. He lived in it for just seven days.

Basic definition and as @safieddine00 states earlier, this is not what any of the Muslim candidates today represent. Call out their policies if you don't like them, but overusing "Islamist" has made it meaningless.
Replying to @safieddine00
Real Islamists: as in people who don't want the separation of state and religion, who believe in instituting Islamic principles in state constitutions, who people in Islam as a political vehicle and not just a personal choice. That's what an Islamist is.

Trump in 2020: "We've spent $8 trillion in the Middle East, and we're not fixing our roads in this country? How stupid. How stupid is it? And we're not fixing our tunnels, our bridges, our roads, our hospitals, our schools? It's crazy."
Abdul El-Sayed literally just repeated the gist of the claim that got him in hot water this week: “It shouldn't be this hard to pay taxes and know that that money's gonna be spent on you and your kids, instead of dropping bombs on somebody else and their kids.” That is the essence of the highly controversial ad that caused Haley Stevens to break with him and sparked condemnation from Jewish leaders across America.

I must have missed when the Saudi lobby passed laws in 38 states to punish boycotting Saudi Arabia in violation of the First Amendment.
60 Minutes' Ross Douthat makes a fool out of himself trying to claim the Saudi Lobby is similar in power to the Israel Lobby. "[$33 million] was spent by AIPAC [against me]," Abdul El-Sayed counters. "Can you point to any other spending [like that]?!"

I went to bed terrified of this scenario yesterday. I told myself Tucker must be wrong; after all, he is known to be hyperbolic about all sorts of things. There is no way this country will use nuclear weapons to bomb Iran. Then I reminded myself that for three years Israel carried out a genocide in Gaza with American weapons and support. If that could happen, the sky is the limit for Netanyahu's depravity, and Trump’s stupidity.
Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran. The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place. The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer. Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war. To that end, he’s applied maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. Both oppose a negotiated settlement to the war they’ve so grievously mismanaged; both are pushing to restart major combat operations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA director John Ratcliffe are also following Netanyahu’s lead, as are leaders of the Democratic Party. In a recent meeting on the subject, former president Barack Obama said he opposes the current Iran peace deal being drafted in Doha. The rest of America’s longtime allies in the Middle East are terrified by the prospect of more war. On September 27th, Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused. After eight months of conflict, Gulf economies are teetering. So are global energy and fertilizer markets. They won’t recover soon. Globally, there are a total of about 850 supertankers used to transport oil from producers to the rest of the world. In October alone, 11 of them were badly damaged in Hormuz. At this pace, a global depression is imminent. A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people. And those are just some of the immediate consequences for the region. The rest of the world is every bit as exposed. No country other than the United States has ever used a nuclear weapon in war. Some would like to. An American nuclear attack on Iran would set a new precedent. The Russians have already told at least two other governments that an American nuclear strike on Iran would free them to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Pakistan and India would be tempted to do the same against each other, as would North Korea against Seoul. After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final. We’ve been sleepwalking toward this moment for months. Since February, the administration has quietly rewritten America’s nuclear doctrine to make first use of so-called “battlefield nukes” easier and therefore more likely. No one in Washington in either party seems bothered by this. Now we’re on the brink of it. Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made. They’re right, though it won’t be simple. The Iranians are famously frustrating to negotiate with under any circumstances, and elements of that government have become more radical since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in February. After decades of isolation, even relatively moderate Iranian leaders seem confused by how decisions are made in the West. (There is a widespread belief in Tehran, for example, that the United States government controls Israel.) But overall, people who have spoken to decision-makers in Iran say there is consensus there that more war is bad for everyone and a deal is worth making. One group that hasn’t been consulted so far is the global population — the hundreds of millions of people who will be killed along with their children if Trump is pushed by Netanyahu into launching a nuclear strike next week. Now would be the time for them to speak up.

Can't wait to read this. Congratulations, Nadia
I’ve spent my career telling other people’s stories. Now, I’m ready to tell you mine. From Gaza to the White House, across four continents, my memoir takes you behind the byline and into my life as a journalist and a mother, the love, the losses, the hard-won triumphs, and the relentless search for home. At its heart is the question that has carried me through it all: when life tests us in the most brutal ways, how do we find the courage to rise again and still believe in humanity and hope? I wrote this book for anyone who has ever wondered how to begin again after losing the person closest to them, or searched for a reason to keep going. Perhaps somewhere in my story, you’ll find a piece of your own. I’m thrilled to share that HarperCollins will publish my memoir on May 18, 2027. Pre-order details will follow. For now, this is your first glimpse, and I’d love to know: will you join me on this journey?
