Well Rap has a culture of calling rappers old & played out & downplayed anything that isn’t current.
Younger generation fr ignorant, disrespectful and out right stupid. Growing up listening to generations of music before my own, id never sit here and discredit a legend of a genre simply because they aren’t relevant or making music currently. Contribution, history & talent matter

Prince LIVE shows in his last 30 years were such a celebration of Black R&B, Soul and Funk music. And he wasn’t using it as a marketing tool or a reference point or SEO fodder or cash grab and didn’t cosplay as em, he just clearly loved that shit and jammed the fuck out to it.

A white leftist will say the child who has the parent that called the police is the real victim; and if the black child doesn’t forgive their parent for calling the police on him at 3 yrs old then the black child is the real oppressor of the child with the racist parent.
They called the police this lil black boy cause he was beatinn all the YT kids‼️🤷🏾‍♂️ 😂😂😂🤦🏾‍♂️

Bernie Mac destroyed the stereotype and lie that having a large Black fan base meant you couldn’t have global appeal. Bernie never thought or projected “I have to get that White bag 💰” to sell and other groups liked him anyway without selling out. So far I have yet to see an interview where Bernie is blaming the Black audience like Kevin Hart did. #thoughtcrimez
Bernie Mac is up there. Bernie Mac was very popular and successful and yet most of his base was predominantly Black, and something about that seems to rub a lot of Hollywood comedians, especially the Black ones, the wrong way.

And to top it off, Prince had the fucking GALL to add Dr. Funkenstein on top of everything else and P-Funk that shit up?!!! Yea y’all ain’t really ready to be Prince.
You wanna be Prince but you ain’t got the harmonic complexity, Soul & spirituality of Stevie? The gospel-drenched, sweltering Funk of Sly? A deep abiding love for Blues, Jazz and roots R&B like Shuggie? Unabashed nerve to throw allat together and jam for 10+ mins like James B?

Many don’t appreciate Prince beyond the purple rain costumes. He was not a pop artist in the way most of your favs are. This is also why, say, a Snoh falls short. The talent gap between Prince/his primary influences and a Snoh is incalculable.

Thing y’all don’t want to accept is yes, he saw her raw ability but he still weighed you more if you could PLAY instruments. He was a PLAYING bandleader and this is bandleader ethos. The artists he himself MOST modeled were bandleaders too: Stevie, Sly, JB, Shuggie.

No Prince was a lover and true student of music in a world full of ‘musicians’ who knew nothing about ‘music’. He and musicians like him lived and performed by a standard that’s LOST. He was happy that Beyonce wasn’t one of them.

This is the heart of Prince, highly capable, self-sufficient, multi-instrumentalists. Of course, it’s fun to play with others and they did but this is the archetype who can build whole worlds from scratch; they aren’t having armies of producers pitch them songs

D’Angelo is the only major modern artist who has approached the study and synthesis of all this.

today’s use of interpolation in pop music is no different than how white bands would steal black artists records back in the day. i shouldn’t be hearing timbaland and pharrell all over these pop tracks and not receiving a percentage and credit on the tracks

Back home for evening so let’s get into #BoogieNights and center Black women vocalists of 80s using their voices so energetically + percussively, there’s no confusion you supposed to dance uninhibited S.O.S (Dit Dit Dit Dash Dash Dash Dit Dit Dit) - SOS Band (Mary Davis) [1980]
