Obama bottomed in public? Wow, neoliberalism is truly dead

Crazy how little attention she got. Ran away with it
This contentious interchange between the NY Times and @GinaHinojosaTX was truly amazing. Hinojosa offered one of the best explanations of populism I've ever seen. Her comments were a total rejection of Corporate Dems' neoliberal formula. Her Texas victory is a game changer.

Crazy thing to talk about considering the extent to which history vindicated his decision
Barry Sanders just admitted he had two or three more years left. In the video below, he says who's to blame. He was 31 and still felt good. The season before, he ran for 1,491 yards. One more like it would have made him the NFL's all-time leading rusher. The Lions were rebuilding. Barry says if Detroit had brought in a lineman like Hall of Famer Willie Roaf, things might have been different. Instead, he burned out. He never played another down. Barry didn't quit on Detroit. Detroit quit on him first. One playoff win in ten years with the best runner alive is on the front office. Detroit paid him more than any player in the NFL. It just never paid for the team around him. What Barry and other legends really made, and what they'd make today, is in the article below.

Damn he’s really dumb
Tom Hiddleston says happiness is overrated and spending your life chasing it can actually make you unhappy "Happiness is overrated. Meaning is underrated. Happiness is like a sunrise or a sunset. Bear with me" "You're there. It's lovely. You're present with it. The sun's rising or the sun is setting. It's perfect. After 15 minutes, the moment is over and it's gone. Trying to sustain it is impossible because it's over" "And a life spent chasing the permanence of that feeling will make you unhappy because you can't hold on to it. The moment you try to hold on to it, it slips through your fingers and is lost" "Meaning is a structure that only you create in your own life, an architecture with your own particular spiritual fingerprint, whereby if you're going through a hard time, if you're going through challenge, struggle, obstacles, suffering or pain, only you know why you're going through it" "You might know, this is hard now. I'm doing it for my kids. I'm doing it for my mom. I'm doing it for my future" "And then it makes enduring the hard times bearable because you know what it means" "And meaning - this is the take - meaning yields joy. Joy is deeper than happiness"

Pynchon deploys them heavily in Gravity’s Rainbow but the one that’s stuck with me for years is when he just completely interrupts the text to tell the reader to check out Ishmael Reed

It’s funny how equal-opportunity racist Twitter has become. Who knew they had such strong feelings about Mongolians?

Risk/reward on trying to save a billionaire’s life says take the risk, but everyone is walking away. He must have been a real piece of work

Tumi? Gross
George Clooney posed with his wife Amal and his 14 closest friends (known as "The Boys") at a dinner party in September 2013, where he famously gifted each of them a Tumi suitcase containing $1 million in cash ($14 million total) along with covering their yearly taxes... The story was made public in 2017 by Clooney’s friend Rande Gerber, who was at the dinner. He said Clooney invited the group over, then wheeled in the suitcases one by one. Gerber said he tried to turn the money down, but Clooney told him that if he didn’t take it, no one would. Clooney also reportedly paid the taxes on all of the gifts, so his friends wouldn’t owe anything. Clooney later confirmed the story. He said many of the friends had helped him when he was broke and struggling as a young actor in Los Angeles in the 1980s, and that some of them were going through hard times of their own. The total gift came to $14 million. Clooney could afford it. In 2013, he co-founded the tequila brand Casamigos with Rande Gerber and businessman Mike Meldman. Four years later, they sold it for up to $1 billion. #drthehistories
