Think about it.
AI models can learn from almost everything available on the internet, but robots need to understand places beyond a screen.
They need to know what streets look like, how buildings are arranged, where objects are located and how physical environments change over time.
You can’t teach a robot to navigate the world if it has no reliable data about that world.
This is the problem
@vangrid_io is tackling.
Instead of relying on expensive, centralized data collection facilities, Vangrid turns everyday smartphones into a distributed network for capturing real-world 3D data.
Contributors capture physical locations and get rewarded, while the resulting data can be used to support the development of Physical AI.
I find the idea fascinating.
The next generation of AI won’t just need to understand what we say. It will need to understand the world we live in.
And that world needs to be mapped.
