Nintendo is just very protective of their IP
Controversial take of the year: Nintendo isn't anti-consumer, they are anti-creator/tinkerer. They don't want roms or modded games. They don't want certain types of content made with their IP.
They do want your money, and they have one of the healthiest consumer to corporation relationships in gaming. Most people who buy Nintendo games if you meet them out in the world just talk the games and move on with their day.
All the internet discourse is just that, the internet. I also haven't seen any PS owners complaining IRL yet about physical games, though I assume the pockets that ride or die physical are spread out.
