Official account of the Media Freedom Coalition - a partnership of countries working together proactively to advocate for media freedom at home and abroad
The MFC is in Oslo this week for its second annual strategic workshop. Together with MFC members, the @HLPMediaFreedom, the Consultative Network, @UNESCO and the OSCE, we have discussed the MFC’s role in upholding media freedom.
On the ninth anniversary of the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, the Diplomatic Missions in Malta from the Media Freedom Coalition remember her courage and her commitment to transparency and accountability.
We reaffirm our shared commitment to media freedom, journalist safety, accountability and the rule of law. We encourage Malta to continue its progress towards the full and effective implementation of the recommendations of the Public Inquiry into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, helping to ensure that journalists in Malta can work freely and safely, supported by appropriate institutional safeguards.
As Malta’s friends and partners, we stand ready to support these efforts and to share relevant experience and expertise, including on journalist safety, media freedom and institutional accountability, so that the lessons of Daphne’s assassination may serve as an opportunity to strengthen institutions and promote lasting progress
We stand with Daphne’s family, Malta’s journalists and all those working to uphold these fundamental democratic values.
