Member of Parliament for Peckham and Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. Miatta.fahnbulleh.mp@parliament.uk

Peckham
The energy transition has to work for our communities. We know what happened in the 80s when economic transition was done badly and was done to communities. That won't happen under this government. The transition will be led by the workers as we work with unions like @GMB_union. Earlier in the week, I spoke at the @ClimateAPPG reception on A Worker-led Transition.

Devolution is the key to unlocking growth in every postcode. Today's budget announced plans to devolve new powers and funding to Mayors around the country including London. A welcome step to unlocking investment needed in communities like Peckham.
Today’s Budget is a really positive and significant day for London. At its heart is a new devolution revolution. My statement:

40 years of failed energy policies have driven us to this point. If we want a system that's fair, affordable & works for the British people - we need public control. Today's Budget is about giving people breathing space while we fix the broken system & put the public in control ⬇️
We know energy bills are too high and families are feeling the pressure. Today's Budget: ✅delivers a £100 energy payment for millions of households ✅extends the electricity VAT cut ✅removes the standing charge off gas bills @Miatsf will give families breathing space⬇️

Today, this Labour government is abolishing standing charges on gas bills. @JohnHealey_MP and I are making energy bills fairer. Tackling affordability is my first priority and I'll keep doing all I can to protect people from unaffordable bills.

Today I made what was meant to be a light-hearted self-deprecating remark. I didn’t get it right and it hasn’t come off as I intended. I fully support our Home Secretary and the government’s position on migration reform. As I said earlier this week, it’s absolutely right that people should have to make a contribution to this country in order to earn citizenship.

Today marks 60 years since the Aberfan Disaster, one of the darkest days in our history.   The tragedy, which cut short so many lives, remains etched in the memory of our nation. We remember the 144 who died and pay tribute to a community of such strength and resilience.

In the middle of an energy crisis, homegrown gas has a role to play in our energy security as we transition to net zero. We’ll also invest North Sea revenues in renewables and other low-carbon projects. My interview on @SkyNews this morning on the decision to approve Jackdaw.
