Love Houz for this take. Dislike that it has to be said. My first year in Milwaukee I was the last guy anybody was looking for. Second round pick, barely off the bench. I went hard anyway. Warmups, practice, seven days a week. You never know which day is the one that counts. And, eventually in year 2, my time came and, when it did, I was ready. Marv can play. Buckeye to Buckeye, I believe his best ball is still ahead of him. That said, first option or decoy route, run it like it's coming to you. Run it like the tape is going to be studied. Going hard has never come back to bite anybody. And maybe, just maybe, it'll even get rewarded. I still believe in you, 18. Keep believing in yourself... and your work. @housh84 @MarvHarrisonJr

Feels like, whereas other guys said they don’t want to be “face” of league, AJ wants to be a star. I’m here for it. Excited to see him (and this whole class) begin his career!

I get why a coach who needs to win-now would go down this path, but still...this breaks my hoops heart.
Kevin Willard admits he isn't recruiting any high school players this year 👀 "We're not recruiting a high school kid this year... just because of the fifth-year rule. We have six guys that can come back for a fifth year. So, I'd much rather have one of my players come back, than bring in a high school kid" (🎥: @BIGEAST)

The internet keep saying Seattle misses Kenneth Walker since he bounced. They're missing half of it. Here's what folks forget... Right up until Charbonnet hurt his knee in the playoffs, 26 was splitting that backfield with Walker. Had more touchdowns than K9. He was the guy down near the goal line. And wouldn't you know it, goal line's exactly where they been struggling all year. I'm no football expert. But I know value when I see it, and I know what it looks like when a good player gets overlooked. You don't just lose one man, you lose everything that whole room was giving you. Seattle lost the duo that got em most of their rushing yards last year, and they lost the vet who was gonna show that rookie first-rounder how to carry himself. So this is powerful. Charbs' back at practice. He'll be playing before long. And people are gonna remember real quick just how powerful his presence is. Don't forget about Zach.
RB Zach Charbonnet is designated to return to practice. Read more » shwks.com/81a4sea0

Work ethic and the right attitude, man. Look what it gets you. Jamal Shead went 45th in that draft. Plenty of guys slide that far and basically start looking for gigs in Europe. Shead went the other way. Put his head down, got better every year, and today Toronto gave him the kind of money guys from his lottery are currently making. And he's not even much of a scorer. Might never be. Doesn't matter, because he does everything else at a high level. Defense, passing, leading that team, suiting up all 82. Winning stuff that don't always jump off the stat sheet. Powerful! I came into the league a second-rounder myself. Sat, waited, worked, had to prove I belonged. So yeah, I know this journey looks easier than it is. Every team's only got room for a scorer or two. Give me a whole roster of Jamal Sheads though. Young fellas coming up, pay attention to this one.
Toronto Raptors guard Jamal Shead has agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract extension with the franchise, his agent KJ Smith tells ESPN. The new deal keeps Shead under contract through the 2029-30 season.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Didn't listen, and Sam's a legend so maybe he covered this, but I remember Elton Brand's buzz. I remember Ben Gordon's buzz. And I really remember No. 1 overall pick DRose's buzz. I say that to say, it's OK to say Caleb Wilson had a great summer league and is a potential star...without othering top Bulls prospects of the past 40 years.
NBA Media Day creates so much optimism throughout the league. LONG TIME Chicago Bulls Columnist @SamSmithHoops believes that should absolutely apply to the Bulls coming into this season "I've been covering the Bulls longer than you've been ALIVE. Caleb Wilson is the BEST Bulls prospect since Michael Jordan" FULL INTERVIEW piped.video/M2V5OTgY05Y

This one's tough for retired athletes. Your whole career the discipline gets handed to you. Summers you're grinding on your own to stay ready, then the season starts and the team gives you everything, the schedule, the workouts, the food, all of it. You never had to go build a plan. Then it's over and all that structure's gone. I took a little time off after I retired just to find myself, and I needed that. You keep telling yourself you'll get back to it and next thing you know months are gone. Now I play a ton of golf, a bunch of pickleball (yeah yeah, laugh it up), and I'm in the gym most days. Try to eat clean too, which is the hard part when you travel as much as I do. That's the one I'd warn people about. A trip'll wreck your whole routine if you let it, so don't let it. And the biggest thing for me was just getting my head right about why I'm doing it now. I'm not chasing buckets anymore. It's about feeling good and being here a long time for my family.
What's something that's been a game-changer for you in terms of health/fitness? Be as broad or specific as you want!

Mike Macdonald told a Sean Payton story he didn't think was going out. Now it's everywhere. You hate to see it... People called me boring interview when I played, soft spoken, all that. I've gone back and forth on whether that was really me or just something I learned. Early on you watch a guy say something in a relaxed moment and next thing you know it's everywhere, and you figure out real quick the safe answer is the one that never gets you in trouble. So I gave a lot of safe answers. (Probably too many.) This whole Mike-Graham situation is a good reminder of why I handled media the way I did. Most of the folks covering sports are good people, from my experience. But, especially nowadays, it only takes one person chasing clicks, and then everybody's guard goes right back up. Makes it tougher on anyone trying to tell real stories, reporters, creators, whoever.

Love it, like it or dislike it, this is cool. It's important for "Admins" to recognize the history of a team, and it's even more important when that history is still with the organization. I just hope Gary Dineen took these photos. @Bucks

Lot to chew on here. Free tickets for students is a good thing. Get the kids in the building. But part of me wonders what it says that they had to make them free. Is UCLA just no longer a football and hoops school at heart? Or is the campus too pretty and LA too much fun for thousands of students to bother showing up to games? And didn't we just hear UCLA was tight on money? I'd love to see the accounting on how giving away seats pencils out. Somebody smarter than me explain it. Either way, enjoy these tickets Bruins!
New: UCLA today announced that admission to all regular-season home football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball games is now FREE for all UCLA students.

This reads like one of those long fabricated clickbait story posts dropped by Twitter accounts based in Asia and Africa, but I swear it's really how my day went yesterday. 😂
I'm going long, but...it's that type of post. Yesterday, outside of family celebrations, might be the best day I've ever had. And I've been blessed with a lot of good ones. I say that so you understand the bar this cleared. I was at Liberty National for the Nexus Cup. Playing that course alone, Manhattan sitting right across the water, the Statue of Liberty straight down the fairway, would've been enough. It wasn't close to the whole day. Met Tony Finau. I'm a big fan, watch him play, see him courtside at Jazz games. Great to meet him on its own, but then he told me he remembered me from my hooping days and that one got me good. Humbled to know all-world athletes in other sports still know me. The Nexus is Tiger's event, so I met Tiger too. He used to come to our games when we played the Magic down in Orlando, but we never actually spoke back then. Yesterday, though, I did. Getting to talk with him for a minute, watch him swing on the range, and hear him tell me to go win before I walked out to the tee... I'm still not over it. (And we did win a prize. You know I couldn't let the MJ of golf down!) OK, so now I'm out on the course. Somehow, I got to talking with Joe LaCava, Hall of Fame caddie. He read a hole for me. I went and birdied it. Told him after, as he laughed. Felt like George Mikan walking you through the Mikan drill himself. Also, ran into Kyle Lowry, been way too long. Proud of what that man did in this league, get an orange jacket ready for him one day. And whatever he does next in business is gonna work out, I already know it. See you on the course soon, Kyle. You'd think that's a full day. Nowhere left to go. Then a friend tells me Jon Batiste is doing a little impromptu show, so I pull up. Him and an ensemble, street-side. After a bit, somehow we all end up on the subway together. First time I've ever ridden the subway in NYC... laugh it up, New York. Anyway, Jon starts playing right there in the car. We get stuck in the tunnel and he keeps going. This lasted closer to a few hours than a few minutes. Come to find out Jon's a real hoop head and knew who I was. One of the great musical minds we've got, jamming on a stuck train, before talking ball with me, on the same day I met Tony and Tiger. I don't know how you top a day like that.

Let's talk about Taj Gibson for a second. Taj is calling it a career. Makes me feel ancient, because I played against the man back when I was still hooping. 17 years he lasted. 17. And the back half of that, everybody knew he wasn't out there to stuff a stat sheet. Teams wanted him around because of who he was for the young guys. He was the one keeping the rooks honest, showing them how you carry yourself as a pro when the cameras are off, showing them how to move on a Tuesday night in January. That's about the most valuable thing an OG vet brings. So of course Chicago brings him back to coach, the same place that drafted him all those years ago. Couldn't have scripted it better for him. Bulls got this one right!

Man, this stuff stinks. I love what social media opened up. All the creators who'd never have gotten a shot otherwise. But that new crop doesn't replace what a guy like Rod gives a city. The Hornets have been around since '87 and, if I'm reading this right, this is the first time that paper won't have a single f/t writer whose job is covering the team. A beat guy knows the building. Knows who to call, what's really behind a quote, the history nobody else bothers to dig up anymore. You don't just hire that back overnight once you let it walk. The NBA can't keep losing guys like Rod, man.
Last week, exactly 10 days before my 5-year anniversary at The Charlotte Observer, my position was eliminated by McClatchy along with 7 of my colleagues. And it happened less than 48 hours after being told corporate had given the green light to bring back my podcast they whacked two years earlier. This means the paper of record that has covered the franchise since its inception in 1987 will no longer have a writer dedicated to giving readers the latest daily insight on the team. Training camp starts in two weeks. During my career in this industry, which has spanned more than 25 years, I've had my share of tough assignments. Following in the footsteps of a legend and someone whose name is permanently affixed to two areas in Spectrum Center ranks right up there. I'm grateful, thankful and forever humbled that I was the one chosen to take on the huge responsibility. And I'm proud of the content I produced. Every single bit of it, including a recent string of nothing but exclusives. Thanks to all those who consumed my work and musings about the #Hornets. It's deeply appreciated. Cheers to what's next.

I see a lot of people saying the 49ers method won out. To that I say: Could be. It definitely won out from the perspective of winning this game. But, as far as long term impact...I don't think we'll know until Week 4 or 5. Let's see how the 49ers reacclimatize to the USA. Still, my favorite topic of Week 1, ha.
Somebody smarter than me help me out here. Maybe it really is this simple. The 49ers flew to Australia a week early to adjust to the time change. The Rams are flying in the night before and leaving right after. Both say they're going off the science. So are they just reading different data? Weighing different things? Coach McVay's logic is keep the routine normal. Coach Shanahan's is give the body time to adjust. Fascinating that the same science points two completely opposite directions. Since we're here, a business question too. The whole point of a game in Australia is planting NFL roots over there. If the Rams really are just in and out, no community work or time spent off-field, I'm a little surprised the league was cool with that. Seems like a missed chance to build something, especially because the Rams have the rights to Australia as one of their international territories. Anyway. Curious how others see it!

No, sir. If I was on Twitter for cash, I'd be in bad shape. Transparently, *checks account* last payout was for $61.12, or a little more than a tank of gas. The folks who make money here, if I had to guess, are deployed bots and clippers, and people who post constantly and consistently. I'm just genuinely a curious dude and like hearing what random people think about sports-related topics...whenever I'm on the app that is, which is likely two days a week in the NBA off-season. Anyway, thanks for the question Jim. I always try to answer folks on here and give my honest .02.

Saw Marshawn Lynch in another campaign today... Feels like he's in a new one every week now. Applebee's, Oakley glasses, some AI company. And I love it for him. But it's still kind of wild that Beast Mode, a running back who barely wanted to talk to the media, became one of the most marketable retired football players of his generation. I say all of that to ask: What actually makes an athlete marketable in 2026? The résumé? Social media savvy? A knack for going viral? Or is it just being yourself and not budging on it? I don't know the exact recipe, but I'd love to hear what you all think!

A lot of the answers here were either informed, thoughtful...or hilarious. All that said, seems I'm not the only one interested in the subject and I hope @netflixsports has a good segment on it before kick-off or at halftime. Talk with doctors, team leaders, coaches, players and make sure viewers know what they're watching, as either or neither team looks out of sorts.
