In the first 19 seasons of my career I had seen Neocosmospora root rot maybe five times. I’ve seen it five times in the last 10 days. The soybean disease is a red crown rot look-alike and apparently much more common in the Delta than I had previously thought @CropNetwork
Gray leaf spot and bacterial leaf streak can look similar on corn leaves, but management is different. Fungicides work against gray leaf spot, but not bacterial leaf streak.
Both diseases produce long lesions between leaf veins. Gray leaf spot lesions are rectangular with straight edges. Bacterial leaf streak lesions are tan to brown with wavy margins.
A helpful diagnostic trick: hold the leaf up to the light. Bacterial lesions often show bright yellow halos, unlike gray leaf spot.
