VC Lawyer/Angel Investing/Running Tech Breakfast Club in NYC/SF/El Segundo

NYC or LA
Excited to get to work for the City of El Segundo Starting immediately: I'm serving as an ambassador (or a missionary?) for the City. Also sort of an advisor... the role is amorphous. The gist is that I get to fly around the country and hang with the brightest hard tech founders and tell the story of El Segundo and the founders that are building world changing companies in this small (but extremely important) town If you're a hard tech VC - we should chat. Lots of fun things to collab on in the near future

If you ever go to the Tesla Diner and order one of their ultrasonic cold brews do not pick the supercharger option It’s an enema and they don’t make that clear until it’s too late

I think what surprised me about Warhound is that the most impactful genetic modifications are probably all health and longevity related Keeping these highly trained pups mobile and healthy for their whole lives is a game changer
Warhound 30 Days of Hard Tech: Day 15 🐕 Jeff Morris (GP at Chapter One): "If you follow Colossal and Anduril, imagine a company that's like a baby of both companies, the companies coming together to build an amazing new product." "Working dogs are, like, the 0.001%, almost like the LeBron James of working dogs. And you want the LeBrons to be on the battlefield." "The biggest mistake that investors make at the early stages is taking the initial idea too literally. Like, you know, at face value, not imagining the world that the best founders can build. We think about founders really being world builders."

Denver/Framework makes the game-plan clear America has Energy Capital Raw materials If you can solve for labor, then it’s a slam dunk to manufacture in the US Framework isn’t a deep tech startup. It just took a bit of brain damage to assemble the existing technology
Framework 30 Days of Hard Tech - Day 14 👕🇺🇸 Denver Rayburn on bringing apparel manufacturing back to America: "The US imports $60 billion a year of knitwear today, and we think that the US should be a net exporter of knitwear over the next 20 years." "There's four costs to produce anything. Raw materials, energy, CapEx and labor. And the US, in the apparel market at least, largest exporter of cotton, largest producer, now exporter of petroleum, the two raw materials are what we do extremely well here. You've the best capital markets in the world. So if you can trend that labor input to zero, then we should actually be a net exporter of a lot of types of apparel." "We're like more than a 10X reduction in the amount of human labor that you would normally have in one of these pieces."

Droneforge 30 days of Hard Tech - Day 13 🎮 Talking about the future of drone autonomy with Chester (Founder of Droneforge): "Imagine more like a Windows, right? The Windows for PCs, is what I imagine Droneforge being for unmanned vehicles. I think that the possibility becomes with empowering OEMs that don't have the resources to invest in autonomy, that we become the autonomy provider." "I saw this viral photo of Brad Pitt wearing, like, 'I need money for Porsche' t-shirt. What if I just put on a T-shirt that says, 'I need money for drones,' and start just, like, walking around everywhere. I started running in front of all the VC offices in SoMa. And I was posting them on Twitter until one investor showed up to my demo day watched me pitch the product. And then, I got my first check that allowed me to work full-time on the company."

Rainmaker 30 days of Hard Tech - Day 12 🌧️ Danielle Strachman (GP at 1517): “Augustus came to us and pitched the idea of literally making God's green earth" "Augustus is one of the most profound examples we have in the portfolio of hyperfluency... He doesn't just know about the technology, he knows about the history, he knows about the politics. He can speak to any piece of the domain." "We love pulling the trigger first. Like, it's what we're looking to do... Dog on a leash energy means just that. A dog on a leash does not need more water put down in front of it, more food put down in front of it. It needs the leash to be cut... That energy was very present in Augustus right from the get-go."
