Help me make a dream project: a documentary film (on Blu-ray) about the SCUMM engine and the incredibly-imaginative, brilliant LucasArts games that redefined the adventure genre.
SCUMMDOC is a deep dive documentary into the SCUMM engine feat creators like Ron Gilbert, Return to Monkey Island’s lead programmer, LucasArts project leader David Fox, & more to be announced. Here’s director @MossRC to tell you how you can help make the project a reality.
Written by gaming historian Richard Moss (@MossRC) and published by @bitmap_books, we are proud to be stocking A Tale of Two Halves: The History Of Football Video Games (Captain's Edition): buff.ly/tNRG6LN
It is a beautiful celebration of over 400 soccer games!
Announcing a SCUMM book, and the pausing of the documentary project.
Passport to Adventure will continue as a book telling the complete history of the LucasArts and Humongous Entertainment SCUMM games, drawing on dozens of new interviews and in-depth research.
ALT SCUMM Book Announcement
A message from writer/director Richard Moss:
It was a point of pride in the SCUMM adventures--both by LucasArts and Humongous Entertainment--that there were no dead ends and your character could never die, and this adventure won't be any different. The Passport to Adventure documentary has entered an indefinite hiatus, but the SCUMM story will still be told.
I'm now working on a book based on our concept.
ALT I'll be taking over the @scummdoc social media feeds from here on out, and I've created a new website/mailing list at scummbook.com--where you can follow my progress and help shape my vision for the book.
Thank you from all of us at CREATORVC for your interest and support of this project: we hope to pick back up on a SCUMM documentary at some point in the future, but for now the best path forward is through this book--which I'll be publishing independently of CREATORVC.
ALT I hope you'll join me in celebrating these wonderful games, and the people who made them, as I work through this new adventure at scummbook.com.
I'll have more to share about my plans soon, but for now I'll note only that I'm excited about the potential for a book about SCUMM's history and I'm determined to put the changed circumstances to good use by attempting to interview as close to *everyone* who worked on the games as is possible.
- Richard Moss, author: Passport to Adventure: The SCUMM Story
My latest book is much more than the story of how Age of Empires (1) was made; it's a story of brothers, camaraderie, innovation, and dreams—the cost of chasing them, the passion that drives them & the joy when they come true. Now available for preorder.

Could I get some support from fellow devs and creatives? We got a negative review on Steam for AI use... despite there being absolutely *no* AI use in our game.
TL;DR? Give a chance to show that AI wasn't used, or you'll be harming the very same artists you claim to be helping.❤️
There is a documentary in the works about the SCUMM engine and its many legendary games like Sam and Max, Monkey Island etc. They have set up a mailing list to gauge interest so they can get it off the ground. scummdoc.com/ Go check it out!

Before we can move this thing into crowdfunding and production, we need to know that it's commercially viable — that it's a thing enough people will actually buy to justify the cost of making it. And for that we need everyone interested to sign up at scummdoc.com
I'm delighted to share that Ron Gilbert has agreed to be interviewed for my new documentary project, Passport to Adventure: The SCUMM Story (@scummdoc). Besides creating SCUMM and Maniac Mansion, he led the first two Monkey Islands and the first few Humongous junior adventures.

I'll be asking him lots of behind-the-scenes questions as well as getting him to really dig into and reflect upon the evolution of his design philosophies during/since the SCUMM years, and weaving all of it into the story of the SCUMM engine and games.
But before I can do that, I need your help to get this thing made. Help me show there's a commercially viable audience for a fan-funded SCUMM documentary by signing up at scummdoc.com, and join hundreds of other fans in shaping this project into something special.

I spoke to filmmaker @MossRC to find out who's involved & what it'll look like!
