Worked with our amazing dev @ahrefabhi to create this fun little easter egg - after a while this little guy pops up and follows the cursor around (and hides when the user is typing in the password 💜)
Me: *makes a cute micro interaction, gets excited and shows it to others* Other product designers: “what is the need of this? Is it solving any problem?” Me: 🥺

reminders for creative people in tech: - your weird taste is your edge - you don't need permission to make things - small daily work beats one big launch - 'unemployable' is a compliment if your work is good enough - one great post can do more than a year of applying to jobs - be delusional and cringe, or you'll be like everyone else - the people you deeply admire started out bad too - the internet rewards people who show up

I wrote a new article about a liquid effect I implemented 5 years ago. (It's been a while) Stable Fluids is used in this algorithm, and I explain how I applied it to create the liquid effect in this article. There are also small interactive demos and you can play with them! mofu-dev.com/en/blog/fluid-f…

I wonder who was the Behrens of today’s digital design. I’m guessing something like 2012-15 Facebook 🤔
Sam Altman often says that AI will lead to a “new Renaissance of creativity and discovery”. Patrick Collison and Tyler Cowen ask why the 21st century has no aesthetic of its own, citing the Bauhaus as the 20th century exemplar. Know how the Bauhaus started? In 1907, electrification was beginning to transform life in Europe. AEG, the largest electrical company in Germany at the time, hired the architect Peter Behrens as its artistic consultant. He overhauled their brand identity, revolutionised their product design and designed the AEG Turbinenfabrik in Berlin, a vast factory for steam turbines, essentially the data center of its day. Today it’s considered one of the foundational monuments of what we think of as “modern” design. Behrens ran a large studio full of talented young assistants during this period. Among them were Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, the architect who founded the Bauhaus ten years later. Meanwhile the creative and cultural divisions of large tech companies today are full to the brim with corporate middle-managers. Behrens and the Bauhaus believed that beauty vs utility was a false dichotomy, that technology and art formed part of a greater project of progress. The tech industry today has an opportunity to take on this mantle and reimagine how the world looks and feels, not just how it works. But for all the professed love of risk in Silicon Valley, they seem too conservative to try.

Many GTM problems aren't GTM problems. They're "we built something nobody urgently needs" or “we don’t understand our users” problems wearing GTM clothing. I said what I said.

i think we’re underestimating how much good product and design thinking used to be enforced by the cost of engineering. when implementation was expensive, ambiguity was expensive. now ambiguity can just become another pull request.

In 2004, India’s official count said the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan had 16-18 tigers. But, visitors had not seen one in months. The truth: Sariska’s tigers had been poached to extinction. What follows is the stunning story of how a supposedly, “poor country” mobilised to save the tiger. From rebuilding its counting methods, camera traps, statistics, satellites and an app. This is the story of how a country that has learnt to lived with tigers for millennia, learnt again how to protect it. Issue 7: How India Actually Saved the Tiger, written by @sonakshi_geog, edited by @fahadmh , tracked, counted & built by @AltCarbonIndia altermag.com/articles/how-in…

code editors mostly push you into thinking linearly, helping you converge quickly. design tools or a canvas basically let you think in an iterative fashion and let you explore different possibilities simultaneously. there’s some magic to both and i think it has less to do with the tools themselves and more to do with how they expand or limit the way we think at different stages of the process such a massive debate around ‘oh i use figma’ vs ‘omg i don’t use figma.’ imo tools should meet people where they’re at. as much as i’m loving designing most things in code now, i think tools shape how we think, wayy more than we realise

it's so crazy how for years we as an industry went on about empathy maps, persona designs, user journeys, wireframes, only for everyone to become obsessed with the idea of one-shotting interfaces with artificial intelligence.

People who use Claude, what are you using Fable for now? I’ve found Opus 5.5 Extra / Max level to be more than sufficient for most of my needs. In comparison Fable is too restrictive and usage limits are not good. Would be grateful for tips / ideas

Is there any advisory for folks who hold ESOPs / RSU for companies abroad?
Side effect of the new LRS scheme is going to shaft a lot of the salaried class again (The class that gets shafted every time). Shut out of employer ESPP schemes. May even impact RSUs. Employees will likely resort to not selling their RSUs and bringing money in.
