How did NORAD first appear on your radar? ✈️ For some of us, it’s a cozy holiday memory - calling the NORAD Tracks Santa hotline as a kid and refusing to hang up until he cleared your local airspace. For others, a cinematic memory - watching classic, blockbuster movies where Cheyenne Mountain's massive blast doors sealed shut to protect the world. And for a few, it was simply hearing fighter jets rumble overhead, looking up, and thinking, "That’s probably important." What is your introduction story to the world’s only binational Command that defends North America 24/7? 👇 Drop it in the comments below! We want to hear the funny, the nostalgic, and the personal connection stories.

A safe space launch begins with a secure sky. NORAD protects the airspace around launch sites using the same radar and tracking systems that defend North American airspace 24/7. How NORAD secures the launch window: - Securing the Airspace: Keeping flight restriction zones completely clear of unauthorized traffic. - Responding to Threats: Patrolling the skies to quickly intercept and redirect off-course aircraft. - Ensuring Mission Safety: Tracking the skies continuously from pre-launch through orbit insertion. Mission steady. NORAD ready. #ICYMI Check out how we supported the Artemis II mission this spring: dvidshub.net/news/564930/pro… @1stAF

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, NORAD reflects on how that day reshaped defending the homelands. The attacks marked a turning point, shifting NORAD from a principally outward‑focused posture to protecting North American airspace against all threats – both internal and external – 24/7/365. This long‑form feature shares stories from across the Command and highlights how 9/11 launched NORAD’s Operation NOBLE EAGLE, a mission sustained through fighter patrols, alert sites, and integrated airspace security. Every day, the personnel of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command pass a solemn reminder of Sept. 11, 2001. Outside the commands’ shared headquarters, the Eberhart-Findley Building, stands a 9/11 Memorial, dedicated in 2010 to remember those who lost their lives that day and honor those who responded and sacrificed in its aftermath. At its heart is a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. At the headquarters entrance are the names of two leaders who stood the Watch at NORAD on 9/11: American Gen. Ralph E. Eberhart, then-Commander of NORAD, and Canadian then-Maj. Gen. Eric A. Findley, NORAD’s Director of Operations. Every day, we plan, operate, and execute the mission of defending North America. And every day, the memorial reminds us of those for whom we serve. Twenty-five years later, the Watch continues. #NORAD #NeverForget #911Anniversary

The ground-based radar at Pituffik Space Base remains vital to NORAD's ability to warn against missile threats to the homeland. It also enables the command’s ability to operate in the Arctic and defend the northern approaches to North America. Its strategic location and demanding environment have enabled recurring command activities, including Operation NOBLE DEFENDER . We join our partners in commemorating a 75-year history of operations at the installation.
This week, leadership from Space Base Delta 1, NORAD and NORTHCOM, the 821st Space Base Group, and international partners gathered to celebrate Pituffik Space Base's 75th Anniversary! Over the course of its history, Pituffik has served as a critical Arctic outpost, advancing a mission built on three pillars: space superiority, force projection and enabling vital scientific research. Have you ever spotted U.S. F-16s overhead in Canada, or Canadian CF-18s operating in the United States, and wondered why? This reciprocal presence of 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 allied fighter aircraft in our shared skies is a routine demonstration of our integrated continental defense. Under NORAD, sovereign borders yield to shared security. When assigned to a NORAD mission, these aircraft operate not as distinct national assets, but as a unified, binational team dedicated to defending North America. Whether responding to tracks of interest in the Arctic or conducting routine patrols across the continent, NORAD tasks the most suitable and ready assets - regardless of nation. Two Nations.
