You don’t NEED to reach out to your Black and brown and Muslim colleagues to check how they’re doing when riots against their very existence are raging across the country. But if you do, it’s welcomed. It’s noticed, and its absence… is also noted.
I will be reviewing applications for a clinical psychology PhD student to begin at the University of Oregon in Fall 2025! Details about my lab, current and upcoming research, mentorship approach, preferred quals, and application tips are on my website: laurenforrest.com

Yes I am doing a peer review and I fear that I am *without doubt* #reviewer2 in this scenario 🤷🏽♀️
I’m so pleased to see two sessions on eating disorders being delivered at #RCPsychIC - it’s very much on the agenda 💪🏻… excellent speakers in both sessions, lots of very interesting content 💙
I see the same 1-2 names used on so many papers & projects as the “lived experience expert” and I struggle to see how that is representative and/or useful for the advancement of equitable treatment for eating disorders.
It is depressingly rare to see eating disorder professionals include people with lived experience who belong to racialised minority groups in their research / co-production work. We are never going to meaningfully advance as a field until this changes.
To be clear, this critique is specifically directed at those who wring their hands about working with racialised minorities in the eating disorder field and yet do so little about it.

Looking forward to speaking today, at the Royal College of Psychiatrists International Congress, on food and body image issues in people of colour—with the amazing @KayshaThomas, @maleallyship and @Nadia_Craddock! ✊🏾

It was an absolute joy to listen to @Nadia_Craddock and @phaedrajayne discuss Phaedra’s research exploring body image in Autistic adults this morning.
Learnt lots and was great to have things I’ve seen in practice explained so well - highly recommend!

If you’re interested in body image/autism/eating disorders, go listen to this fab episode!
I particularly loved the body neutrality theme in Phaedra’s research & the discussion around making psychometric measures more accessible for autistic folk & those w’ learning disabilities
I spoke with @phaedrajayne this morning for the @CAR_UWE podcast about body image in autistic people and I loved our conversation so much I might break my own (arbitrary) rules & release it early 🤭

ALT Image 2: The image is featuring a quote from Dr. Kerry Montgomery discussing the financial impact on individuals with alopecia
ALT The image features Dr. Fabio Zucchelli discussing the intersection between appearance management and the experiences of individuals with alopecia. The texthighlights the impact of managing appearance and dealing with stigma and discrimination.
ALT Image 4: This slide features Sue Schilling, the CEO of Alopecia UK, discussing the impact of alopecia on people's quality of life.
I *should* be writing papers but getting this ep ready to share feels so much more pressing (and fun!).
Btw. This will be a great one to listen to if you were unable to make #ICED2024 or if, like me, you had a clash with Phaedra's talk/workshop.
