Cold, grim honesty from Douglas Murray. I find it impossible to contain my loathing of the people who brought us here. I can't excuse them via whatever the latest excuse is: the parties got it wrong, or didn't notice, or it was someone else's fault spectator.com/article/france…

Brilliant article by Juliet Samuel in The Times today. London’s City Bridge foundation, a charity commenced in the 13th century to maintain London’s bridges, is being systematically looted on a grand scale to fund Leftist causes since the City of london Corporation, its only trustee, amended its charter in 1995 to fund “other charitable purposes”. since then, inter alia: £1.2m in 2023 granted to “strengthen representation of the London’s Muslim-led charity Sector” £1m over seven years to “ build capacity in the trans and sex worker sectors”. £15m into a “climate action strategy” fund. in 2024 2025 the foundation spent £13 million on bridges and £82 million on grants. Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge remains …. closed.

Another good take w. some history.
Whenever a government minister cites the advent of artificial intelligence as the justification for a policy, you can be certain that there has been an absence of actual intelligence in the reasoning behind it. Nowhere is that clearer than in the Education Secretary's embrace of 'oracy' as the new priority for our schools. 'With AI on the rise,' Lucy Powell asserted, 'we need to go harder on the skills that make us human, like oracy.' Ms Powell refrained from explaining what it is about large language models that requires a different approach to language teaching in our schools. ✍️ Lara Brown Article | spectator.com/article/lucy-p… | @lara_e_brown

Daughter, then age ~15 around the general election w. Corbyn: > There was something about the way she [teacher] pronounced "Corbyn", so I could tell she didn't like him. Whether anyone else could conclude that is unknown.
If a single pupil knows anything about your political leanings you’re a failure as a teacher.

Not the first time w. PHP. Think a lot of tech admins love this really because they can be heroes running around patching stuff. Tech vendors too because of increased sales via people finally upgrading old kit that can't be patched. That's "old" at web-speed, not very old.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

Makeup is a lie. Tired of these mostly ersatz blonde young influencer/activist women, regardless of their political persuasion. Not my beauty & not transfixed, because I subconsciously read eyes or something into such a verdict. She looks off before she says anything.
On Monday night, with the glass still being swept up from the latest événements, French viewers were offered a spectacle almost as compelling as the riots. A young, blonde, radical left-wing woman appeared on France’s La Grande Confrontation TV show and gave a performance mixing, in equal parts, conviction, narcissism, privilege, contempt and, at best, a highly selective grasp of history. And all delivered from a face of transfixing beauty. Her name is Lola-Fleur Whittaker. She is 23, and a Sciences Po student who stood for Mélenchon’s La France Insoumise in the Paris municipals this spring. Facing shopkeepers in the TV studio, whose premises had been looted, she excused the rioters and condescendingly explained to the traders: “Vos boutiques, c’est bien mignon.” Literally: oh your shops, how sweet. ✍️ Sean Thomas Article | spectator.com/article/lola-f…

'If we stop measuring it, maybe the inequality will go away.' Desperate stuff, this. And would be funny if it wasn't the least advantaged kids who'd lose out the most.
📚 | NEW REPORT: Disadvantaged children are nearly three times less likely to achieve the highest marks in Year 6 SATs. We call for a rethink of primary school assessments to reduce inequality, ease pressure on teachers and create a fairer system for all pupils. Read here 👇 ippr.org/articles/what-comes…
