Concerned by reports of a series of arrests, raids and blocking of websites and social media accounts targeting LGBTI civil society in #Türkiye. Advocacy for equality and non-discrimination is protected under the #ECHR. References to "family values" or “protection of children” cannot justify restricting #HumanRights. I call on the Turkish authorities to release anyone detained for engaging in human rights or civil society work. They should guarantee protection of due process and fully respect the principles of legality, necessity, proportionality and the presumption of innocence. ⚡️ PACE has just adopted my resolution, “Eliminating gender stereotypes in the media”! 94 votes in favor! It calls on states to strengthen media literacy, support civil society, and tackle sexist hate speech, deepfakes, online harassment and the algorithmic amplification of harmful stereotypes. 🇺🇦 A separate part of my report focuses on #Ukraine’s experience: Russia weaponises misogyny, fake accounts, sexualised deepfakes and online abuse against Ukrainian women journalists, activists and politicians as part of its hybrid warfare. My sincere thanks to colleagues in @PACE_News for their timely work, constructive amendments and strong support.
