Mark Rowley is being hugely disingenuous here.
While he regales us of stories of online 'attacks' on the policewoman, he's conveniently airbrushed the reason for the public criticism out of his speech.
Fiona, the policewoman said to be an operational parliamentary and diplomatic protection officer, should have had it drilled into her that her handling of her firearm is enormously bad and unsafe practice.
As a public servant paid for by taxpayers and thrust into the public view as a ''pioneer'' award winner, she has invited legitimate public opinion.
Rowley should defend his staff, but he should also recognise this legitimate criticism.
Here's how she handled her firearm, with her finger on the trigger, and an example of how she should have handled it; with her finger off the trigger.
This is a level of safety standard that the public demand be upheld, and anyone saying ''oh well, the safety catch was on'', I ask them this: would you allow yourself to be placed in the crosshairs by an armed Fiona with only the safety catch between her firearm and you. If the answer is ''yes'', then either you're lying or an idiot.
