Remember that scene in Matilda (1996) when Miss Trunchbull forces Bruce Bogtrotter to eat an enormous chocolate cake in front of the entire school?
The poor kid is sitting there with chocolate all over his face, looking like he's about to explode, while the other children are cheering him on. It's one of the funniest and most memorable scenes in the movie.
Now imagine being the actor who actually had to film it.
Jimmy Karz was just 12 years old when he played Bruce, and believe it or not, he didn't even like chocolate cake!
Director Danny DeVito spent roughly three weeks filming that scene, which meant Jimmy had to sit there taking bite after bite, covered in chocolate, while the cameras kept rolling.
Thankfully, Danny let him spit out the cake between takes. Otherwise, that poor kid might have needed a doctor by the time they finished filming!
Jimmy: "Danny, I don't even LIKE chocolate cake!"
Danny: "Don't worry, kid! Just spit it out between takes!"
Jimmy: "How many more takes?"
Danny: "Just a few!"
By the time filming was over, Jimmy was so sick of chocolate that he couldn't stand the smell of it for weeks.
And here we are, 30 years later, still cheering for Bruce to finish that damn cake! 😂
Anybody else remember watching this scene and wishing they could have a piece?
