Every part of our work in 2025 pointed to one goal: a just and inclusive digital future for everyone, especially women, girls and historically marginalised communities. Our Annual Report tells the story. Thank you to everyone who made 2025 possible, our partners, funders, community and team. Read it 👉🏾annualreports.pollicy.org/ #DigitalRights

What will it take for women leaders in #Tanzania to take part in democracy without being pushed offline? This week, 20 decision makers joined our #TFGBV Key Stakeholder Bootcamp in Tanzania, from government, police, the judiciary, media, telecoms, political parties, academia, UNESCO and civil society. We worked from The Cost of Candidacy and @JamiiForums research, and left with one clear takeaway: a safe and joyful internet needs a united voice. #DigitalRights #SafetyByDesign #OnlineSafety #WomenInPolitics

What happens when care work is mediated through online platforms? We took that question to Bern, Switzerland, for the SOR4D programme and shared two papers on domestic workers, platforms and digital resilience in Kenya under the UPDATE project. Watch 👇🏾 #PlatformWork

Elections raise the danger for women online, and the pattern is predictable. We’re delighted that many participants shared their lived experiences online. We encourage the public to #ClickSafe: create a safety plan, report abuse, and take time to be slow and accurate. As the internet evolves, the community needs to evolve, especially for women. 3/3

Our Program Coordinator, Danai, is at the @_AfricanUnion 's #InnoFest26, taking part in the Inaugural CoP on TF-VAWG. Participants are reviewing @UN_Women's draft baseline brief and working toward shared terminology to strengthen advocacy across #Africa. Danai is also following the tech innovation sessions while there, where donors and governments meet. For Pollicy, #data and technology must serve people, especially women and marginalized communities.

As has become our tradition, we began #FIFAfrica26 with the AIRA Annual Convening — a day to bring our members together to reflect, exchange and think collectively about where our work goes next. And what a day it was. A thread 🧵

Last week we were in Fort Portal for the second Safety for Voices workshop. 20 women in politics, media, and human rights work spent two days with us talking #digitalrights, playing Digital SafeTea, Where Is My Data? and Choose Your Own Fake News, and testing Ukweli bot, our fact-checking engine. Here is what they told us 👇🏾

✔️ They want Ukweli as a mobile app on their phones, and they want it to verify video and audio too. ✔️ They shared Runyoro-Rutooro words used to insult and shame women online. Those now go into our Digital Harms Lexicon. They also helped us map local support for survivors of online abuse across the Tooro region, so help is closer to home.

Picture an internet where a woman in politics can post, campaign, and share her ideas without dreading the replies. That is the safe and joyful internet we build toward at Pollicy. #SafetyforVoices

At Pollicy, we use empirical evidence and data from our research to inform data policies that affect women, girls and marginalised groups. And as Nanjala Nyabola put it at #DataTamashaAfrica26, when we start with the lived realities of African women, we start to ask questions that make our theories richer and shape the data reality we want to build and live in. #ASafeandJoyfulInternet

We've heard the stories. Now we bring the evidence. We close the 'Who Funds Women's Innovation' podcast with @NavinaJus, unpacking what research really says about funding feminist organisations across East Africa. The #data has caught up. The question is: have the funders, and will the data shape our next course of action? 🎧 Tune in…. open.spotify.com/episode/3RW… #FemTechFunding
