Oct. 24 is #WorldPolioDay. What do polio and typhoid have in common? Displaced populations -- refugees and others on the move because of armed conflict, climate effects or disasters -- are less likely to get routine vaccinations for diseases including polio and typhoid. The good news: more countries are recognizing the benefits of including those on the move in vaccination campaigns against infectious disease. Learn more: coalitionagainsttyphoid.org/…

Having multiple #typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) products creates a healthier market and a stronger supply—ensuring more children have access. 💪💉 @WHO recently prequalified a 5th TCV product, EuTYPH-C Inj.® Multi-dose. More on why this matters 👇 coalitionagainsttyphoid.org/… #TakeOnTyphoid

Four countries introduced #typhoid conjugate vaccines (TCVs) with @gavi support in 2025, reaching more than 80M children through introduction campaigns. 👏 Celebrating our progress to #TakeOnTyphoid and other preventable diseases!
2025 put health systems under enormous pressure, from conflict and climate shocks to rising debt and unprecedented cuts to development assistance. Yet amid that historic uncertainty, countries continued to expand protection against preventable disease, reach more children and invest more of their own resources in immunisation. Gavi’s latest Annual Progress Report captures the scale of that progress, and the work that still lies ahead. Scroll down through eight numbers that help tell the story of 2025, and read more about what sustained investment in vaccines has made possible on VaccinesWork: bit.ly/4jJbqrh

1/ Bacteriophages, or phages, are viruses that infect bacteria. CHRF scientists have spent the past several years collecting and characterizing phages that infect Salmonella Typhi, the bacterium responsible for typhoid fever, from environmental water samples across Bangladesh.

Policy from the World Health Organization updated this summer advises countries to consider introducing a typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) booster dose close to 5 years of age in settings with very high typhoid incidence for children who received a primary dose of TCV between 9-24 months of age. Countries may also consider booster doses in settings where children receive a primary dose of TCV younger than 23 months, especially areas with a high case fatality ratio or very high prevalence of drug resistance. Booster doses are especially valuable in areas with very high typhoid incidence because they reinforce protection for children who receive TCV at a young age. The health risks of #ClimateChange are not evenly distributed. 🌎🌧️ Many communities experiencing floods, extreme heat, or other disruptions also have the fewest resources to respond, the weakest surveillance systems, and the greatest burden of infectious diseases like #typhoid. More on what this means for typhoid vaccine policy: coalitionagainsttyphoid.org/… #TakeOnTyphoid

La #typhoïde résistante aux médicaments constitue un problème urgent, mais nous pouvons prévenir les épidémies grâce aux vaccins, à l'accès à l'eau potable, à l'assainissement, à l'hygiène et à d'autres mesures. Drug-resistant #typhoid is an urgent issue. But we can stop the spread of drug-resistant strains with vaccines, improved access to #water, #sanitation, and #hygiene, and other interventions. #TakeOnTyphoid

🗣️ "Antimicrobial resistance affects us all, because we all get infections." 💪 We can all play a role in stopping the spread of #DrugResistant diseases, including #Typhoid. More here: coalitionagainsttyphoid.org/…
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest threats to public health today. Dr Ali Ahmed Yahaya, Team Lead for Antimicrobial Resistance at @WHOAFRO, discusses the importance of protecting the effectiveness of life-saving medicines through collective action, stronger health systems and responsible use of antimicrobials.

We know how to #TakeOnTyphoid. We just have to keep up the momentum as we ensure protection reaches those who it them most. Vaccines and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) work hand-in-hand to stop disease. 💪

💧 Despite improvements to #WASH facilities in the past decade — an important win for #typhoid prevention — room for progress remains as millions of children globally still lack adequate drinking & sanitation facilities at school. From @WHO/@UNICEF ⤵️ data.unicef.org/resources/jm…

An important story on how the flooding in Nepal has affected access to health services and raised the risk of waterborne diseases 👇
Nepal’s flood was the first emergency. Now comes the risk of another. Contaminated water, crowded shelters and damaged health facilities are raising concerns about infectious disease outbreaks with health teams racing to respond. Here’s a look at the current response on the ground in Nepal: bit.ly/3TGe6LS
