Industrial policy & geopolitics are on the rise, w/big economic impacts--but the EU's surprising turn towards major market interventions may transform Europe itself. My new @jepp_journal piece explores the potential consequences & challenges facing the EU tandfonline.com/eprint/GIXPK…
A short @goodauth write-up of a climate debate in @JoDemocracy on the minor question: Can democracy solve the climate crisis?

Congrats to @laaker_dillon, our former @georgetownsfs Global Political Economy Project predoctoral fellow whose work on the politics of supply chains is amazing!
It has been a long journey. I’m thrilled to announce that I have accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at @cornellgov! So many people from Nebraska, Truman, Forensics, Wisconsin, Georgetown, and LSE have helped me reach this point, and I’m extraordinarily grateful.

A Trump-appointed judge just struck down a Biden rule expanding overtime pay to 4 million working people.
It's really surprising how little media coverage this has received. Trump faced no real questions about this issue during the campaign. 1/

Super important read--particularly for those that think it is simply about Democrats needing to "get the word out" about their better economic policies. Complex cultural dynamics in play, all intersecting with economic polarization.nytimes.com/2024/11/21/opini…
Reading Ta-Nehisi Coates “The Case for Reparations” for my @georgetownsfs undergrad proseminar “Money & Markets” & filled with awe that this is what I get paid to do. theatlantic.com/magazine/arc…
Good piece from @jburnmurdoch but the key question is why voters only hear progressive culture messages when Biden was about material results for workers & Harris avoided DEI. I’d say Trump/Rs & media played up exactly those divisions, distorting & radicalizing in the process.

Talk about burying the lede--beyond the transition, the bigger issue is Trump's signalling he wants to use the Presidency for his own personal profit and interest. nytimes.com/2024/11/09/us/po…
Essential reading from Tim Sahay & @bentleyballan of the @NZpolicylab on what a Trump presidency means for the green transition. While the US will likely fall far behind in the race to clean energy, there are many forces that will continue the push towards decarbonization.
A Trumpist repeal of the climate portions of IRA, BIL, CHIPS would harm the US. Think of it as the opposite of global reaction after IRA passed.
It creates tens of billions of dollars in opportunities for other countries.

Trump’s entire closing message was about demonizing immigrants. But as a DC journalist who needs access for the next four years, I’m going to pretend he spent all that time talking about inflation while Harris ignored it.
Brilliant work on the inconvenient political & environmental truths around Hungary’s battery policy “success” by @palmapolyak presented at @Columbia New Thinking in Industrial Policy conference.
