Labour is nature-blind. Ministers urgently need to listen to scientists, like @ProfPaulBehrens👇 libdemvoice.org/the-independ… Nature is not an optional extra. Failure to protect and restore it will cripple our economy, and see global warming and flooding worsening.
Defra cuts coming, Steve Reed the environment secretary tells the enviro audit committee- he said the Office for Environmental Protection and the "rest of Defra" will "have to do more with less" and that the priority has to be "cutting NHS waiting lists"

I’ve just started this book; essential reading I’d judge from the intro… Sober fact; with every litre of petrol consumed in our cars we melt over a tonne of glacial ice. Let that sink in. We like to blame fossil-fuel companies for the climate crisis; but we all do this…
Now that my book is out, I thought I’d explain what it’s about and why I wrote it… [a thread]

Half the global population could be obese by 2035, driven by soaring sugar intake. Cutting sugar could free land for rewilding, reduce emissions, and create sustainable bioplastics or protein-rich foods. Read more from @ProfPaulBehrens in @ConversationUK theconversation.com/eating-l…

⚠️17 billionaires are receiving over €3 billion in EU agricultural subsidies. Subsidies that are mostly funding environmental catastrophe. Was happy to add some thoughts in this Guardian article that also highlights the incredible opacity of the CAP theguardian.com/environment/…

I was really pleased to be consulted on this piece on ultra-proceed foods. It's really important to look at what's actually in the UPFs. We should aim for whole-food, plant-based meals but plant-based UPFs generally have much better nutrition than meat. bbc.co.uk/future/article/202…

🗞️ New Paper out! In a peer-reviewed comment in Nature Food we explore the ways in which the Dublin Declaration on Livestock misleads readers and policy makers (important as it was used by lobbies to water down green ag proposals)...

🍔 There is abundant scientific literature on the need to reduce livestock numbers. 🍔 Agroecological principles would involve reducing and not increasing livestock intensity and could only produce a much smaller amount of products in high-income countries today.
