Washington Commanders vs San Francisco 49ers Game Reaction
3 things we learned from the Commanders:
1. The Washington Commanders players have not quit on Dan Quinn, but at 1-4-1 they are about to get him fired.
Jayden Daniels gave Washington a chance to win in the end, but he and his team still have to answer for the plays that killed that chance.
Throwing the ball away on 4th down from San Francisco’s 13 yard line, the intentional grounding and the sack to end the game vs a 3 man rush on the final possession just can’t happen.
His next step is making the correct situational decision when extending the play no longer helps. You can defend his talent while demanding better execution. This team has too many clock management and situational football blunders.
2. Washington’s most painful loss from the game was Terry McLaurin.
The implications extend beyond one receiver’s catches. He will miss time and Washington must replace the defensive attention he commands as well as his production and most importantly his leadership.
3. The Commanders have to start games faster. They keep making their best football a rescue mission.
At halftime, San Francisco had 303 yards to Washington’s 90. The 49ers had accumulated 17 first downs—the same number of offensive plays Washington had run.
To climb out of a 1-4-1 hole, Washington can’t keep having to overcome a deficit created by both units. Starting faster would make Daniels’ late-game heroics far more valuable.
Jayden Daniels can make the impossible look possible. Now Washington needs to stop making the possible look impossible.
For the 49ers:
1-Malik Mustapha is a beast.
2-Put some RESPECT on Brock Purdy’s name. Not just a system QB, but he did complete 72.4% of his passes with a 9.1 yards per attempt and a 111.9 passer rating.
3-Mike Evans’ injury exposed how much his presence matters to this offense.
Evans had three catches for 94 yards before leaving with an Achilles injury before halftime. That’s an incredible 31.3 yards per catch.
49ers scored 3 points after halftime without him.
