In 2018, Elon Musk tweeted that he would fund the replacement of lead contaminated water pipes in Flint, Michigan for any home that still had unsafe water. He said to just tell him which houses needed help and he would fix them. The response from Flint's officials was near silence. The offer was genuine. Elon followed up. He donated $480,000 to install UV filtration systems in Flint schools. He offered to continue funding until every household had clean water. Local officials thanked him publicly and then largely stopped responding. The project stalled not because of money but because of bureaucracy, local politics, and the same institutional inertia that had allowed the crisis to happen in the first place. The detail that makes this story devastating is not the donation. It is the disconnect between the speed at which Elon operates and the speed at which a municipal government can accept help. He offered. He funded. He followed up. The system he was trying to help could not process the help at the speed it was offered. The man who can build a factory in 6 months could not get a city to accept pipe replacements because the approval process, the contractor bids, the environmental reviews, and the political negotiations moved at a pace that made SpaceX look like light speed by comparison. He has described the Flint experience as one of the most frustrating of his career. Not because the problem was hard. Because the problem was easy and the system designed to solve easy problems was broken. The water needed clean pipes. The pipes needed money. The money was offered. And the space between offered and installed was filled with a bureaucracy that moved at the speed of government while children drank contaminated water. The man who solves engineering problems for a living encountered a problem that was not engineering. It was institutional. The pipes were simple. The politics were not. The money was present. The will was present. The system that was supposed to connect money and will to pipes could not function at the speed the crisis demanded. He fixed the schools. The broader offer faded. The city eventually replaced most of its pipes through federal and state funding years later. The man who offered to fix it in months watched it take years. The frustration of the man who moves fast encountering a world that doesn't is the frustration that defines his relationship with every institution he touches. The rockets are faster because they don't require a city council vote.

We'll be able to build anything with Grok 4.8 🙌

I know it’s taken longer than expected, but Grok 4.8 will not be a disappointment. We’re not optimizing for benchmarks and I really don’t care how Grok does on those, but it will be incredibly useful.

This is weird now... I've always been promoting the use of FSD for safety and convenience, but there was no referral benefit just for using it. Now there is, so of course I'll hand out my referral link, but I'm afraid that it'll seem like a sales pitch for my own benefit. 😅

Grok bot allows Elon to take advantage of the lowest prices products when he shops
That’s what I do too. Just have @Bot buy it somewhere else at a lower price.

Long term, Optimus won't be required to plug in Tesla's Robotaxis, but it will be pretty cool while they do 😂
Lars just confirmed that Optimus will be plugging Tesla Cybercabs in to charge until Tesla develops and releases a more automated way with its new infrastructure expansion Long term, Optimus won't be required to plug in Tesla's Robotaxis, but it will be pretty cool while they do $TSLA

Amazing safety record 🙌
We are launching the Tesla Robotaxi safety report today. Till date, Robotaxi has driven a total of 3.3 million miles autonomously, and has had zero injuries nor airbag deployments. If the same number of miles were to be manually driven, we should expect roughly 9 injuries to the occupants or other pedestrians and 4 airbag deployments on average. We will continue to transparently share our progress with the public using this page. tesla.com/robotaxi/safety
