I opposed the war from the beginning.
The week before the bombs started falling,
@AlexIngersoll and I were the ONLY journalists who showed up at the Pentagon.
Everyone told me I was nuts for thinking war was imminent.
Once the bombing began, I made some of the most conservative predictions about American casualties and the impact on oil prices on record.
Hegseth, Cooper, and Caine blew those predictions out of the water. The war was executed FAR better than almost anyone expected.
But here鈥檚 the distinction people seem determined to ignore:
A brilliantly executed war can still be a catastrophically bad decision.
And I believe starting this war was a terrible decision.
There are indeed strong rumors that Admiral Brad Cooper strongly advocated for it. But rumors aren鈥檛 evidence. We also have no idea what political or strategic advice Hegseth and Caine actually gave Trump, if any.
Do I want accountability? ABSOLUTELY.
Whoever convinced Trump to bomb Iran should be held accountable and fired.
We do know talking heads like
@marklevinshow and senators like
@SenTomCotton were absolute hawks but we don鈥檛 know who inside the White House steered that decision.
I know a lot of people, including hard core MAGA supporters, want heads to roll but guillotining the military leaders who exceeded every military and economic estimate (well except the one from Trump himself that it would be over in weeks) for a disastrous political decision, without knowing what advice they gave, makes absolutely no sense.
Hold the people who made the decision accountable. Don鈥檛 confuse them with the people ordered to execute it.
