Such a pedestrian conversation. I couldn’t even finish it, turned it off when Lennard pulled up the calculator…
There will be a consequence to including these unserious people in serious conversations
After playing a clip of Eddie Glaude on the One54 Africa podcast, in which he argues that multiplying Black billionaires won't lift poor Black communities and says one solution would be taxing the rich, Charlamagne pushed back a little. Black Billionaires can't fix problems that took 450 years to create, he said, but that doesn't mean they aren't doing anything.
Then he asked the "crew of brilliant idiots" why so many people see taxing the billionaire class as the perfect solution. He said he hasn't seen taxes actually benefit Black people.
Chris answered that this is because the billionaire class pushes those laws in the first place. Taxing them, he said, would reduce their influence, and the laws might finally start reflecting the majority of people instead of a small class protecting its own interests.
Charlamagne pointed out that the federal government collected $5.23 trillion in taxes last year and asked how anyone can say we can't afford free healthcare. Mouse said the reason is that politicians are controlled by billionaires.
Charlamagne replied that America was designed to keep Black and poor people at the bottom, and that wouldn't change just because you tax the billionaires.
Chris added that the system is built to keep poor white people down too, but they've been tricked into believing that being poor and white beats letting Black people be in control.
Charlamagne took it even further. The rich white man, he said, convinced the poor white man that the problem is the n*****s, and you can swap that word for immigrants, trans people, or any other group and it fits just the same.
