Congressman for New York's 10th District in the House of Representatives

New York, NY
As Republicans implement their devastating cuts to SNAP, we need to be sure that those who still receive benefits actually get them. That’s why Congress must pass my bipartisan Enhanced Cybersecurity for SNAP Act to provide federal funding to upgrade to chip-enabled EBT cards nationwide and prevent rampant SNAP fraud that is making too many people go hungry.
New: Fraudsters stole $470 million last year from Americans who need help paying for food. Adopting the same microchip that credit cards have had for years would prevent most of the theft, but Congress won’t pay for it. propub.li/4dCgOc8

Once again, @DHSgov cites statistics that they refuse to verify or publicize for scrutiny. I have repeatedly asked for further information on this data – including in the letter dated September 1st linked below – and they refuse to respond. If these numbers are accurate, DHS should have no problem giving me the underlying information. The fact that they continue to refuse to do so seriously undermines their credibility. goldman.house.gov/sites/evo-…
Replying to @DHSgov
CLAIM: ICE undermines public safety. It makes us less safe. FACT: 7 out of the 10 safest cities in the U.S. cooperate with ICE. Every day, the men and women of ICE are keeping our communities safe by arresting terrorists, murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and drug traffickers. Since President Trump’s second term began, ICE has arrested nearly 12,000 gang members and over 2,236 known or suspected terrorists. ICE saves American lives every day by enforcing our nation’s laws. Furthermore, this incident follows more than a year and a half of New York sanctuary politicians refusing to honor ICE detainers for dangerous illegal aliens in their custody. The latest ICE data reveals that from January 20, 2025, to September 14, 2026, 14,916 detainers were not honored by the state of New York. There are 47,750 total criminal charges and convictions associated with the detainers that were not honored in the state of New York.

.@DHSgov officials have repeatedly denied that it has monitored protestors using a database that includes American citizens, including under oath in front of the Homeland Security Committee. In newly unsealed court filings, DHS has admitted that they have been lying all along. In fact, they have been using a Palantir database to track and intimidate Americans who have done nothing other than exercise their First Amendment rights. Those officials who testified falsely must be investigated for making false statements to Congress when the Democrats take over the majority. Congress should pass my DHS Surveillance Technology Moratorium Act of 2026, which would enact a moratorium on surveillance technology related contracts overseen by DHS, and would force a public audit by the Inspector General. Americans deserve to know exactly how Trump's DHS uses these tools to fuel ICE’s campaign of violence. wired.com/story/ice-has-been…

Some rare positive news from this week’s visit to 26 Federal Plaza: zero detainees on the 10th floor and full due process and public access to the virtual courtrooms on the 3rd floor. We raised the alarm when ICE denied me access to the virtual courtrooms (which should be under DOJ jurisdiction), and thankfully that oversight and accountability effort resulted in the removal of ICE altogether on that floor. Congressional oversight works. I will continue to show up and hold @DHSgov accountable.

A lot of words here but none that indicate a single reason for the ICE agent to have pulled the trigger. If previously committing a felony justified getting shot for no other reason, we would no longer live in a democracy based on the rule of law. This statement all but admits that there was no absolutely no legitimate reason to shoot. ICE has hired thousands of unqualified, unvetted, untrained new agents, and this is yet another example of how this administration is breaking the law. The United States Attorney must immediately investigate this as a potential crime committed well outside the duties and responsibilities of the agent. There must be accountability.
On October 8, at approximately 4:00 PM ET, ICE officers were conducting a targeted enforcement operation in the Bronx, New York, to arrest a criminal illegal alien from the Dominican Republic with a prior criminal conviction for grand larceny, and multiple prior arrests for assault, robbery, possession of drugs, and weapons possession. He has associations to the Trinitarios gang, the same gang who brutally shot a CBP officer last year. This criminal illegal alien was arrested by the NYPD on December 7, 2023, but was released into the community a few days later by reckless Democrat sanctuary policies that put American lives at risk. During the incident, an ICE officer discharged his weapon and the criminal illegal alien was injured. ICE officers immediately rendered aid. The individual is alive and at a local hospital. The FBI and HSI are on the scene. The incident remains under investigation. More information will be shared as it becomes available. When dangerous illegal aliens are released back onto the streets by radical sanctuary politicians, our officers are forced to make arrests at large in the community in unpredictable and dangerous environments. Our officers should not have to risk their lives, and innocent Americans should not have to face unnecessary danger, because sanctuary politicians refuse to cooperate with federal law enforcement.

This weekend, we hosted a Wellness Resource Fair in the district, working alongside various government agencies and community organizations to support and engage with residents of the Lower East Side. We are grateful to every group that helped make this possible, and to all of our constituents who stopped by!

Outdated Medicaid restrictions on long-term mental health care have left too many Americans in crisis without access to treatment, and we have seen the devastating impact in New York City and around the country. To accompany my Michelle Go Act and the Strengthening Medicaid for Serious Mental Illness Act, I am introducing the bipartisan IMD CARE Act, which would allow states to expand their mental health services and help get Americans out of the never-ending cycle of hospitals, jail, and the streets. Boosting mental health and substance abuse treatment would have a dramatic impact on reducing crime, homelessness, and giving everyone the opportunity to succeed. goldman.house.gov/media/pres…

Donald Trump has used taxpayer dollars to bankroll his own personal political ads. This is a blatant misuse of Americans’ hard-earned money, and it is deceptive and misleading. I am joining my fellow @HomelandDems on a letter demanding answers from DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

Unaccompanied minors — immigrant children as young as two years old — are being brought before an immigration judge and expected to adequately represent themselves. This year, the Trump administration allowed a contract with the Acacia Center for Justice to lapse, leaving a vacuum where the center once provided legal counsel to over 20,000 kids. In addition to being plainly negligent, these children are being denied due process under the Constitution of the United States of America. I have been a voice on this issue for as long as I have served in Congress, but recent events have shown unprecedented levels of cruelty by this administration that must stop once and for all. cnn.com/2026/09/28/politics/…

Why does @DHSgov continue to bar me from new rooms where immigrants are sent to have virtual hearings even though they are appearing in person, as instructed? What are they hiding by unlawfully preventing me from conducting my congressional oversight duties? I will keep coming back until they give me answers and let me observe their end-run around the normal legal process.
Representative Dan Goldman said it was the first time he had been barred from attending an immigration hearing. nysfocus.com/2026/09/23/new-…

During my time in office, I have been privileged to be able to deliver a total of $15,464,700 in Community Project Funding Awards to 11 different @NYCHA developments in the district. These funds support NYCHA projects improving community safety features that are crucial to the health and wellbeing of its residents. I would like to extend my gratitude to the resident leaders whose advocacy helped many of these projects come to fruition, as well as NYCHA CEO Lisa Bova-Hiatt for her leadership and commitment to the welfare of over half a million New Yorkers whom NYCHA serves.

I’m back at the 26 Federal Plaza ICE Facility, where I’ve just conducted my weekly oversight visit. Once again, immigrants are being deported to a “third country” — a foreign nation that is not their home country where they likely have no connections, family or safeguards. This group has orders that prevent them from being sent back to their home countries so this is a concerning circumvention of the law. As rumored last week, we discovered that @DHSgov has indeed started conducting virtual immigration hearings out of this facility. During this visit, I was denied my congressional right to conduct oversight of those courtrooms, which further begs the question: What is DHS hiding? I will continue coming back and demanding answers. As always, if you or someone you know needs assistance, my office is available to help.

Today marks the solemn 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. It gives us an opportunity to mourn the thousands we lost that day, and the thousands more taken by 9/11 related illnesses. It’s a day to remember the heroes who rushed towards the towers in true New York fashion, and the victims’ families, survivors, and neighbors who still suffer from that day. As we reflect on 9/11’s traumatic impact on the city, let’s also remember the unity and resilience that New Yorkers showed. That was the very best of New York and it shows what we can be. We must never forget that day, and we must also never forget our potential as a city, a country, and as Americans.

Gutted by the tragic accident on Canal St. where one pedestrian was killed and two more were injured by a truck. My office is in contact with the NYPD as we try to learn more. I am once again calling on @NYC_DOT to address Canal Street to prioritize pedestrian safety.

Thank you @NYCGothamHealth and @NYCHealthSystem for having me today, as we commemorated the dreadful attack on 9/11 but celebrated the incredible resilience and hard work of the medical community in the 25 years since. Now that the City has finally relented and released dozens of boxes of documents from the immediate aftermath of the attacks, it is my hope that the expertise of the terrific doctors at Health and Hospitals can use that information to help the tens of thousands suffering from 9/11-related illnesses.

My weekly oversight visit at the 26 Federal Plaza ICE facility was again consistent with its return to its prior use as a processing center with only 3 detainees there. But we are monitoring troubling rumors that @DHSgov is going to start conducting virtual hearings to potentially get around an order prohibiting courthouse arrests. This would be an outrageous violation of a court order, and I strongly advise DHS to abandon this plan.

School is back after a nice, long New York summer. It was a pleasure to greet parents and kids on the first day of school at PS 89 with District 1 Superintendent Kelly McGuire. I wish all 900,000+ NYC public school students a great year.

Tomorrow marks 25 years since the September 11th attacks. I am proud to lead a resolution, joined by over 200 of my colleagues, that commemorates the thousands of lives lost, reaffirms our obligation to the survivors and first responders who continue to suffer from 9/11 related illnesses, and recognizes the importance of teaching future generations the history and lessons of September 11th. We must never forget. goldman.house.gov/media/pres…
