I didn't realize it at the time, but what happened on September 11th would completely change the trajectory of my life.
Very quickly, America was a nation at war. I was angry about us being attacked, and I wanted to do my part. I wanted to fight back.
I was unwilling to let other people go and fight for me. I grew up in a working class family, and I wasn't going to have other working class kids go and bear the burden on my behalf.
I was a senior in college on 9/11. I had just started the last year of my ROTC. I had a National Guard contract, so I was going to be commissioned in the National Guard as an officer. After the September 11th attacks, I went to my ROTC unit commander and asked for a transition to an active duty contract. Less than a year later, I was an infantry officer going through all the training and getting ready to go to war. I would deploy three times to the Middle East, and end up completing three combat tours, first in Iraq as a paratrooper, and then in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger.
Later, my views changed about what “fighting back” actually looks like, and how to do that the right way versus the wrong way. But at the time, that's what it meant to me.
My time in the military still guides my belief in service today. Now, as a Member of Congress, I have a duty and obligation to keep our nation safe and protect our servicemembers. I take my oath seriously and believe there is no higher calling than service to one’s country.

We’re not going back! Out of the devastation of the Trump administration, we’re gonna build a new foreign policy.
It needs to make life better for working class Americans.
And it starts with connecting policymakers with Americans in all corners of our nation. We’re gonna break down the DC bubble.
How will Trump’s war with Iran end?
His own top officials don’t know.
There’s never been a strategy or an endgame—just a new forever war you pay the price for.

Starshield is controlled by the U.S. government.
Civilians are dying because Ukraine can’t defend itself from Russian attacks without these critical capabilities.
Yet Trump pretends like he has no idea his policies are emboldening Putin and killing civilians.
It's outrageous.
Earlier today, my congressional office in Aurora received a letter with a suspicious substance.
My staff is safe, and our district office remains open for those who need assistance. Attempts to intimidate me or my team will not stop our work on behalf of Coloradans.
I want to thank law enforcement for swiftly working to investigate this matter and keep everyone safe.
Pete Hegseth wants to continue the Iran war and spend billions more at the Pentagon.
All while Americans can’t afford gas, groceries, or a home.
No more blank checks for endless war.

Disruptions to critical U.S. satellite systems left Ukrainians vulnerable to Russian attacks.
Orders to limit Starshield came from the White House according to reports, and the President needs to explain why.
Trump is shamefully abandoning our allies to cozy up to dictators like Putin.

Putin continues to brutally attack Ukraine.
America must stand with the Ukrainian women, children, & refugees already in the U.S. who cannot return home without fearing for their lives.
I’m leading new legislation to extend temporary protections for these Ukrainians:

Trump’s actions are funding Putin’s war machine—the same aggression that’s killing civilians and helping Iran target American servicemembers.
It’s dangerous, shocking, and wrong.
Easing sanctions bankrolls Putin’s war machine, prolongs Russia’s aggression, and means more civilians will die.
It’s a shameful betrayal of Ukraine and our allies.
America is less safe because of the President’s weakness and affinity of dictators.

No surprise that Colorado brought home a whole lot of hardware at this year’s Great American Beer Festival—41 medals.

President Trump is betraying our allies & cozying up to our adversaries to cover for his failed war with Iran.
Rather than ending his forever wars, he’s turning on Ukraine, giving Putin a lifeline, and breaking promises to lower costs.
More than 100 children were killed in a military strike during the Iran war.
Over seven months later, President Trump and Pete Hegseth continue to hide the truth about what happened.
The American people deserve transparency and accountability.

Pete Hegseth thinks we defeat our adversaries by acting like them.
It’s un-American, and couldn’t be further from the truth.
We are better than our enemies because America sets a higher standard.
$2,000.
That’s how much Trump’s war with Iran has cost every American household.
Working families can’t afford his endless conflicts abroad.

President Trump promised to lower prices, but costs continue to climb higher & higher.
End his war. End his reckless tariffs. Lower costs for working families.
BREAKING: Inflation climbed to a 4-month high in September as the Iran war continued to drive up gasoline prices ahead of key midterm elections.
Prices rose 3.7% in September compared to a year earlier.

America is strong & tough because our servicemembers are the best in the world, not because Pete Hegseth pounds his chests or posts his workout videos.
Trump’s tariffs are like tax increases–you end up paying more.
Working families can’t afford it.
I’m fighting to end them.
