Delighted to speak at the @RCOTNIreland Manifesto launch at Stormont today. OTs make a huge difference, supporting independence and helping people live life to the full. Thomas, a young Belfast man with cerebral palsy, delivered the speech of the day. His wheelchair has helped him live his best life, and he now supports other young people with disabilities through health and fitness. A brilliant reminder of what the right support can achieve. 💜

💛 Good to spend time at Belfast City Hospital today, meeting staff and seeing the new Da Vinci 5 robotic surgery platform in action. Since May, 130 patients have benefited from robotic-assisted surgery. Our £1.95m investment will strengthen specialist centres, improve local services and introduce a new Regional Endometriosis Pathway. We are making progress on waiting times, but I recognise the challenges remain. There is still a journey ahead, not just in endometriosis care but across women’s health. We must be ambitious, honest about the gaps and determined to deliver better. Women deserve better. Right care, right place, right time. #HopeNotFear #WomensHealth

Devastated to hear of the passing of @ciaramageean this morning. Ciara was an inspiration to so many, not only as an incredible athlete but through the courage, honesty and dignity with which she faced her cancer diagnosis. Her openness and humanity throughout her journey will have brought strength and comfort to so many others. A truly remarkable woman who leaves a lasting legacy. My heartfelt thoughts are with her husband, family and friends at this very sad time. 🤍

Delighted to meet Young Lives vs Cancer yesterday to discuss how we can work together to better support young people and their families with a cancer diagnosis. Their work is unquestionably valuable and makes such a difference when children and young people deserve our very best effort. Keep up the great work guys and I look forward to engaging again soon. 💜

🧠 Yesterday I met with our Mental Health Champion, Siobhan O’Neill, to discuss mental health and wellbeing across Northern Ireland. 💬 We covered a range of issues, from prevention and early intervention to crisis management. There is lots of positive work happening, but there is still so much more we can and must do. 💙 I will continue to make the case for increased resources and remain committed to transforming mental health services and wellbeing support across Northern Ireland, for people of all ages and every generation. Prevention matters. Early intervention matters. And ensuring people get the right support at the right time matters. Together, we can make a real difference. #HopeNotFear #MentalHealth #HealthTransformation #MakeNIWork

🏃‍♂️🎗️ 5K done! Brilliant to be part of Centra Run Together this morning, alongside Pete Snodden from Cool FM, supporting the fantastic work of Action Cancer. Huge credit to everyone who organised, trained, fundraised and turned out to make today happen. A decade of Centra Run Together is something to celebrate, but the real winners are the people and families who benefit from the incredible work of Action Cancer. A great atmosphere, a great cause and a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together. Well done, everyone! 👏💛 #HopeNotFear #ActionCancer #CentraRunTogether #MakeNIWork

From maternity and neonatal services, to cholesterol awareness, dementia care and community transport, there is a shared ambition to make things better. My job is to listen, understand the challenges and work with service user's, patients, clinicians and organisations towards shared outcomes and aims. That’s the social contract at the heart of our health service. A shared responsibility to listen, act and deliver better care for everyone. #HopeNotFear #MakeNIWork #HealthReset Apologies for lack of alt text due to X failure. An incredible visit to Orchardville in East Belfast. It was brilliant to spend time with the amazing young adults in their day opportunities program and see firsthand the fantastic work they are doing. Also treated to a solo song from one of my fav films, The Greatest Showman! Hearing directly from the service users and the brilliant staff who deliver these vital initiatives was the absolute highlight. Big thank you to everyone for the warm welcome! 🙌🌱 #Community #Inclusion #Orchardville #EastBelfast #HopeNotFear

I first met the #PerinatalMentalHealth lobby team and @Robinson_Linds in 2018 when I was absolutely convinced for the need to advance specialist perinatal services. I am so proud of the work this fabulous group have led on and whilst there is still work to do to get the Mother and Baby Unit built, we have come a long way with specialist service. More to do but grateful to have been part of the voice. #HopeNotFear #SpecialistPerinatal "Apologies if the alt text isn't visible 🙏"

Some really interesting and informative conversations with EU and other European Health Leaders this week in Dublin. Health transformation and betterment shouldn't be subject to any type of border when it comes to sharing solutions and best practice. The invitation from the current President of EU Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeil was very welcome and my conversations with the Ukrainian Minister he led bare the reality and ongoing challenges in that war ravaged region. Finding ways to work and share excellence should continue to be a worthy goal. #HopeNotFear #Europe #Health #Collaboration

#HopeNotFear Leta get to work! Good to meet with the RQIA today. As Health Minister, I really value the important role they play in independently inspecting and regulating health and social care across Northern Ireland. Their scrutiny helps give me confidence about the quality and safety of services, while also highlighting where we need to do better. That independent challenge is important as we work to improve our HSC and deliver better care and outcomes for people.

My appreciation for the time and discussion with senior staff at Holywell Hospital Antrim Area. Mental Health provision and improvement has long been an ambition of mine. There is much being done and more we could do if we can match budget with ambition. I will continue to make the case with my executive colleagues for more resource to affect real change. #HopeNotFear #MentalHealth

Engaging and listening first hand with both clinicians and service users across NI is a non negotiable task for me. I was delighted to spend some time at the South Western Acute Hospital today. A vital part of the acute hospital network. I'm very interested in their development of a long term "Vision for Health and Care Service's" for the region. Great to see first hand the great facility and better still, to chat to those on the front line. #HopeNotFear #MakeNIWork #SWAH #HealthAndSocialCare #NorthernIreland

💜 Like most families, my own close loved ones have had to hear those diagnostic words that cut deep: “you have cancer.” Yesterday in Lisburn, I saw the next chapter for @NIPANC_ led by Ivan McMinn MBE & Susan McLaughlin, and poignantly opened by Margaret Magennis in memory of her late husband Brian. Building on the work of Mike Nesbitt & Robin Swann, I’m committed to keeping cancer care moving forward. Energising, prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, research & support. Time matters! Hope, not fear. 💜 #MakeNIWork #LaganValley #UUP #HopeNotFear #NIPANC

First of many Trust-wide visits today. Thank you to Belfast Trust for the welcome. On a whirlwind visit I only scratched the surface, but it was humbling to see the professionalism and dedication of staff — from porters to nurses and doctors. 👏 Everton Day Centre was a particular highlight. I left with absolute joy and positivity thanks to the brilliant LD clients. ❤️ At the Maureen Sheehan Centre, I saw the new Neighbourhood model for Integrated Care in action with all parts of the care jigsaw communicating and collaborating collectively for better outcomes. 👏👏👏 Improving access, flow and cutting waiting times must remain a shared priority. Let's get to work! 💪 #MakeNIWork #HopeNotFear #UnionOfPeople

🎶 One of the highlights of the Fleadh for me has been seeing so many children and young people getting up, having a go and proudly showing off their amazing talents. These two wee stars, Eoin and Laoise from Wexford, really caught my ear. 🎻👏 Had a great chat with them afterwards too. What a talent they have and what confidence! Didn't get the name of the young man on the 🪉but he was similarly awesome. Plenty to be proud of and, if these guys are anything to go by, the future of trad is looking very bright. ☘️🎶 Brilliant stuff! 👏
🚆 En route to the Fleadh! Fair play to @Translink_NI and their FAB staff, going the extra mile and delivering with a smile. 👏 Ian Wilson, with an incredible 35 years’ service, is absolutely on top of his game at a very busy Lisburn Station today. 🙌 And the scale of the operation is impressive: • 🎟️ Over 1 million passenger journeys across the network in the first five days — 275,000 more than the equivalent period last year. • 🚌🚆 A special Fleadh timetable is in place, with significantly enhanced capacity across the bus and rail network. • ⏰ If you’re heading out, plan ahead, leave extra time and expect services to be busy. Check the Journey Planner before travelling. Great people, great service and a great welcome to the Fleadh. 🎶👏 #Fleadh #Translink #Lisburn #Culture

🏥 It was a pleasure to visit Lagan Valley Hospital today alongside Chief Executive Roisin Coulter, Health Minister Mike Nesbitt and Professor Mark Taylor. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ We spent time in the Outpatients Department and Coronary Care Unit, meeting the incredible staff whose professionalism, compassion and dedication make such a difference to patients and their families every day. ❤️ 🤝 It was also great to chat with patients, some dear friends, and hear first-hand about their experiences. 😉 And of course… there was a quick stop into the Medical Day Case Unit to say hello to one nurse in particular! You know who you are. 👏 Thank you to everyone who welcomed us today and for everything you do. Our health service faces many challenges, but its greatest strength will always be the people who serve within it. It was a real pleasure to meet the new officer team at Hilden Community Association today alongside our local UUP representative, Linsey Gibson, and Alan Martin. Hilden and the Low Road aren’t just places I represent, they’re my roots. It’s where I grew up, where I learned the value of community, and I’m proud to still call it home. It was especially good to catch up with Jenny Palmer, a valued former Assembly colleague whose decades of political and community experience will be a real asset, alongside Barbara, whose eye for organisation and communications will be invaluable. We had a positive discussion about Hilden, the Low Road, Glenmore and Roseville. The best outcomes come when local people, councils, statutory agencies and elected representatives work together with a shared purpose. Thanks to Jenny, Barbara and the committee for the warm welcome and for all you’re doing for our community. We’re looking forward to working with you. 💙 #Hilden #LowRoad #Glenmore #Roseville #Lisburn #CommunityFirst

The Sustainable Farming Investment Scheme is now open. I encourage every eligible farmer to explore what’s on offer. Investment in productivity, resilience and environmental improvements is welcome and this scheme presents real opportunities for farm businesses. One question remains though: why no support for on-farm screw press slurry separation? It’s not a silver bullet, but it can be part of the solution to improving nutrient management and reducing phosphorus loading. England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland all support this technology. I hope DAERA will show the agility to include it in future rounds.
